Keurig Dr Pepper Joins Circular Economy Initiatives Keurig Dr Pepper has become a signatory in two regional initiatives of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s global Plas- tics Pact network – the U.S. Plastic Pact and the Canada Plas- tics Pact. Both Pacts bring together players from across the local plastic value chain behind a common vision and clear, actionable targets to create a path forward toward a circular economy for plastics. In addition, the Company also recently joined Ocean Con- servancy’s Trash Free Seas Alliance, which brings together thought leaders from the private sector, conservation and academia actively working toward solutions that will miti- gate plastic waste entering the ocean. As an Activator of the U.S. Plastics Pact and Canada Plas- tics Pact, Keurig Dr Pepper has agreed to collectively make efforts toward these four country-level goals espoused by the Pacts: • Define a list of packaging to be designated as problem- atic or unnecessary by 2021 and take measures to eliminate them by 2025; • By 2025, all plastic packaging is 100 percent reusable, recyclable, or compostable; • By 2025, undertake ambitious actions to effectively recy- cle or compost 50 percent of plastic packaging; and • By 2025, the average recycled content or responsibly sourced bio-based content in plastic packaging will be 30 percent. UPM Raflatac Achieves APR Critical Guidance Recognition The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) has recognized UPM Raflatac’s PE and PP pressure sensitive label materi- als with general purpose acrylic adhesive for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers as meeting or exceeding the most strict APR HDPE Critical Guidance criteria for re- cyclability. Achieving this Critical Guidance Recognition is an important step in UPM Raflatac’s ongoing quest to label a smarter future beyond fossils. These white and clear PP and PE label materials combined with multipurpose acrylic adhesives are part of UPM Raf- latac’s SmartCircle portfolio of labeling materials that enable recyclability of packaging and promote the circular economy. The Critical Guidance Recognition means the label materials are proven to be compatible with standard HDPE container recycling practices.They are suitable for a variety of end-uses, including food and home and personal care. Blaze Strikes Atlantic Coast Fibers Plant A fire engulfed an Atlantic Coast Fibers recycling plant in Passaic, New Jersey, on January 30. Atlantic Coast Fibers processes cardboard, paper, plastic containers, and other materials for recycling, according to its website.The family-run company dates back more than 80 years.
