Alter Corp., Toyota Tsusho America Form partnership Scrap processing and trading company Alter Trading Corp., headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, has partnered with Toyota Tsusho America Inc. (TAI) to form Altech Recy- cling LLC, which is constructing a metals separation plant in Arkansas to produce aluminum products from shredded scrap.The new company’s output will supplement demand at TAI production facilities as well as supply other business partners in North America. Toyota Tsusho Corp. operates in more than 120 countries with approximately 66,000 employees. Founded in 1898, Alter is a privately owned, fifth-gener- ation company that is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified. The company employs 1,325 people and operates 70 metal re- cycling facilities and seven trading offices in eight states, along with its representative sales office in Hong Kong. CMI, The Recycling Partnership Offer Grants The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) andThe Recycling Partnership have announced requests for proposals (RFPs) for aluminum beverage can capture grants. The grants, sponsored by can manufacturers Ardagh Group and Crown Holdings, will fund eddy currents, robots and other equip- ment or process improvements to capture used beverage cans (UBCs) at material recovery facilities (MRFs). The Recycling Partnership is a strategic partner that will fulfill several roles in the grant program, including evaluat- ing and assessing the proposals submitted and executing the grant program overall. CMI said the program will begin as a pilot effort in the Southeast United States, enabling grant partners to evaluate the effectiveness of the grants and apply learnings. Republic Services, Romeo Power Partner Romeo Power Inc., Los Angeles, California, and Phoenix, Arizona-based Republic Services Inc. have entered into a strategic alliance agreement to collaborate on the develop- ment of Romeo Power’s battery technology for use in Re- public’s electric garbage trucks. Romeo Power’s core prod- uct offering is focused on the battery electric medium-duty short-haul and heavy-duty long-haul trucking markets. As part of the agreement, senior leaders from each com- pany will sit on a steering committee that will monitor and guide the alliance.According to the two parties, the compa- nies will work closely to determine the key performance metrics of Romeo Power’s battery packs that will suit Re- public’s refuse-specific needs. As part of the agreement, the two parties also have agreed to a retrofit test program in which the diesel engines and related components will be removed from two of Repub- lic’s vehicles and replaced with electric motors and Romeo Power battery packs, with a goal of delivering the retrofit- ted trucks by the end of 2021.
