January 2024 TPT Member Magazine

A NOTE FROM SYLVIA Welcome to 2024! As we bundle up for January and lean into winter sports as only Minnesotans do (or fly south for a bit of warm sunshine), public television programming is available to you on-air and online for your downtime. A new year brings new ideas, new resolutions and new journeys — along with some great new programming on TPT. For the drama aficionado and the lifelong learner, January beckons with a slew of programming gems. On January 2, we kick off an exciting month with the premiere of a new season of Finding Your Roots with the incomparable Henry Louis Gates, Jr., who takes celebrity guests on a journey to better understand the surprising twists of their heritage. Later that week, we get to experience a trifecta of Sunday-night British dramas, including the return of both Miss Scarlet and the Duke and All Creatures Great and Small , as well as a new show called Funny Woman , which chronicles the story of a young woman from Blackpool who takes the male-dominated 1960s comedy scene by storm. After honoring the lasting contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 15, I am most excited for the premiere of a new film in our award-winning Minnesota Experience history series. Jesse Ventura Shocks the World! lands on our screens on January 16, marking the 25th anniversary of the wrestler-turned-politician's inauguration as Minnesota’s governor. Larger than life, the film explores his early roots, his time as a Navy Seal, his career as pro wrestler “Jesse the Body,” and the values that shaped his political administration. At TPT, we wish you a fulfilling New Year, and we hope that this thrilling line-up of shows brings you joy and ignites your curiosity. We are endlessly grateful for your support.
