OCTOBER 2024
From Yosemite to the Grand Canyon Exploring the Best of America’s National Parks
“There is nothing so American as our national parks … the fundamental idea behind the parks … is that the country belongs to the people, that it is in process of making for the enrichment of the lives of all of us.” — Franklin D. Roosevelt According to Lonely Planet, October is the ideal time to explore America’s national parks. From the towering mountains to the cascading waterfalls, nothing is as beautiful. Two of our family favorites are the Grand Canyon and Yosemite, but to be honest, it’s tough to choose which national park is the best — each one holds its own special beauty. We visited many national parks with our kids when they were young, and the memories are irreplaceable. America’s national parks offer experiences second to none. When we travel abroad in Europe, we always tell people they must visit these national treasures. There’s nothing like the energy you feel in places like Yosemite, where nature's charm leaves you awestruck. One of our favorite times to visit Yosemite is during the “shoulder season” (the time between high and low season) when the crowds are lighter, but the beauty still surrounds you. Between the waterfalls, wildlife, and nature, there’s so much to appreciate. Our kids, having watched the movie Free Solo, were especially excited to see Half Dome in person. It brought the movie to life in a way photos or descriptions could never match. During one trip, we stayed at a lodge in Yosemite, and the kids absolutely loved it. The sense of adventure and being so close to nature really left an impact on them. One of the most incredible trips we’ve ever taken was a road trip through Redwood National Forest, Cannon Beach, and Olympic National Park. Each park had its own unique feel, but Olympic National Park stood out to us — it felt almost like a rainforest. Walking through it felt like stepping into another world! I think it’s amazing how you can go from towering trees to misty coastlines to snowy peaks in just a few days of travel.
There’s something about visiting America’s national parks that gives you a different perspective. Standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon or beneath the towering trees in a redwood forest can make you feel small but in a connected, meaningful way. It reminds you of the vastness of the world and the beauty that exists beyond the hustle and bustle of daily life. For our family, these moments of awe and connection have created lasting memories and an appreciation for nature.
Every visit reminds us of the magic that exists in our own backyard. Whether it’s watching the sun rise over the Grand Canyon or hiking through the redwoods or Yosemite, it’s always such an amazing experience. For anyone who hasn’t yet visited America’s national
parks, this time of year is the perfect time to do so. The weather is cooler, the crowds are smaller, and the beauty is unbelievable — I promise your jaw will drop.

NFL’s Recent Antitrust Ruling What Led to the Historic Fine Over Sunday Ticket
NFL Sunday Ticket, also known as Sunday Ticket, is a sports package allowing purchasers to view regular season NFL games not carried by local broadcasts in their area. Sunday Ticket has been around since 1994, with DirecTV offering it exclusively until 2022 when the NFL signed a seven-year, $14 billion deal with Google’s YouTube TV. However, the NFL’s exclusive deals for Sunday Ticket have come at a cost. After a trial in June that lasted just three weeks, a jury in Los Angeles awarded over $4.7 billion in damages to the plaintiffs in an antitrust class-action lawsuit against the NFL.
but it also removed competition. It forced fans to purchase access to all games rather than offering the ability to purchase only the games they were interested in. For instance, if you are a Philadelphia Eagles fan but live in Florida, your local on-air broadcasts are unlikely to show Eagles games. In that case, if you wanted to watch all the Eagles’ games, you’d have to shell out a good chunk of change to access those games. As of 2024, a subscription to NFL Sunday Ticket costs $449 per year.
After five hours of deliberation, the jury agreed with the plaintiffs and awarded $4.7 billion in damages to the residential
The Trial The Mucky Duck sports bar in San Francisco initially filed the suit in 2015; an appeals court dismissed then reinstated the case in 2017 before it became a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit now covers about 2.4 million residential subscribers and 48,000 business subscribers. The plaintiffs alleged that the NFL’s agreement with DirecTV, and now YouTube TV, violated antitrust laws. Not only did the NFL allegedly overcharge both residential and commercial subscribers,
subscribers and $96 million to the business subscribers. Due to federal antitrust
laws, those damages can be tripled. That means the NFL may be liable for up to $14.39 billion in damages. The NFL has appealed the decision, but if upheld,
each NFL team could be forced to pay
nearly $450 million in damages.
