DO YOUR SIPS HAVE SECRETS? The Health Clues Hidden in Your Water

that may affect what comes out of your well. Based on my research, the best way to guarantee safe drinking water is to have a reputable laboratory test it. I recently read about a company called Tap Score that provides customers with mail-to-lab kits that enable laboratory personnel to test water samples for coliform bacteria, arsenic, and other contaminants. In addition to providing definitive data on your water quality, a lab could spare you an unwanted sales pitch or a confusing trip through the hardware aisle. Of course, identifying what’s wrong is only half the battle. From there, you’ll need to find ways to address these problems directly. Research is key, as not all solutions are created equal. For example, a filter that is good for eliminating one type of contaminant may be ineffective in catching another. Once your water is tested and filtered, make sure to put enough in your body. To maintain good health, you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day — so, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75 ounces per day — which is a lot to consume if that water is potentially life-threatening. With water serving so many of our basic needs, now is the obvious time to take action at your tap! –Dr. Tom Sladic To order supplements or blood work, call 248-912-2962.

In our quest for perfect health, we often focus too much on the big picture and neglect to consider the obvious things right in front of us. We all know eating well contributes significantly to our physical and mental well- being. As late holistic health practitioner Ann Wigmore famously said, “The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” A big- picture view of health informs us that following a balanced and healthy diet is a better way to fuel our day than, say, washing down a dozen doughnuts with a 2-liter bottle of pop. Pretty straightforward, right? Now, let’s say you haven’t felt well lately despite following a proper meal plan. You add healthier foods to your diet, purchase new supplements, and change your exercise routine but still can’t get back into your normal groove. In this scenario, you may have overlooked the obvious by not first looking for answers at your nearest faucet. Contaminated water is a serious health hazard that grows greater with every sip. Although lead and copper are among the worst and most common things that can pollute your water, other dangerous elements may enter your supply. If you live near livestock or have a farm, nitrates may

be polluting your well. Regular exposure to nitrate contamination could negatively affect thyroid function and even contribute to thyroid cancer. The good news is that there are several ways to guarantee the quality of your drinking water. Of course, buying your supply — which I do here at the office by purchasing 5-gallon drums of spring water — is the best option. If you’d prefer to use your household sources, you must get that water tested regularly. So, what’s the most straightforward path to clean, properly tested water? Well, it’s a little tricky, as the marketplace is flooded with options of varying quality and effectiveness. Plenty of companies out there are more than happy to come over and test your water so they can sell you a costly solution. Even worse, the allure of “free testing” disappears once a provider hands you a purchase agreement shortly after performing an analysis. You could always go to your local store and pick up a do-it-yourself kit, but those products may not always be 100% accurate and are prone to user errors. You should take the quality of your drinking water as seriously as any other major health concern. Just as you seek expert advice when you can’t shake a bad cold, you should seek professional guidance on anything

ROASTED AND SEASONED PEPITAS

PATIENT SPOTLIGHT: CHARITY M. TROYER Setbacks to Health Transformation “Before I became one of Dr. Tom Sladic’s patients through Natural Solutions for Health, my physical and mental well- being were being tested. I was dealing with a lot of fatigue and not sleeping well. On top of that, I was experiencing hair loss, aches in my legs, and heart palpitations. Although I highly suspected I had thyroid issues and autoimmune disease, my bloodwork showed neither of these things. However, it was clear that I had low levels of ferritin and vitamin D, and needed to get my body and mind back on track. “Although my thyroid wasn’t to blame for how I felt, Dr. Sladic was happy to explore various options with me to improve my overall health. He gave me a list of recommended supplements to take for six months. I also consulted with him every 2–3 weeks to ask questions, discuss my health, and develop ways to manage stress and other life challenges. Before long, I gained more strength to overcome my struggles. “Above all, my experience with Mr. Sladic has made me feel better than I have in a long time. I now take Mg-Zyme and ashwagandha before bedtime, which has been a great help in improving my sleep. My iron levels have also gone up drastically, and I feel my stamina returning slowly but surely — all thanks to Natural Solutions for Health. “Dr. Sladic has blessed me tremendously by giving me positive ways to look at life in spite of the hard things I face. I am grateful for all the good things in life and thank God for the knocks I receive along the way. Whenever I end a call with Dr. Sladic, I have new courage to conquer my battles. All praises to God! “May you always be blessed, Dr. Sladic, as you continue to bless others.” –C. Troyer

FLOSSING Though often overlooked, flossing is a crucial component of your daily oral care routine. This meticulous task targets the spaces between your teeth the toothbrush can’t reach. By dislodging trapped food particles and plaque, flossing helps prevent the buildup of harmful bacteria that can lead to gum disease and cavities. MOUTHWASH After thoroughly removing plaque and debris through brushing and flossing, mouthwash provides a comprehensive cleansing. By killing off the remaining germs that cause bad breath, plaque, and

gum disease, mouthwash completes oral care and leaves you with fresh breath.
