that it is not so easily changed. This little slide on the side sets the needle in one certain position. Now the rod and chain have no effect on it. It is possible for a person to find what direction is north, and to set the compass accord ingly before the compass comes near the iron. The Bible tells us that we should be “ stedfast, unmoveable, always abound ing in the work of the Lord.” H o l y D a y o r H o l i d a y Objects: Two pieces of paper, 8% x 11 inches. (Fold each end to within % inch of the middle, leaving a gap of % inch. In this space on one piece of paper, print the words “HOLY DAY,” and on the other, “HOLIDAY.” Open the first, and using the letters of the words “HOLY DAY,” complete the following: “ CHURCH, WORSHIP, HELPING, NEEDY, GLADNESS, PEACE and JOY.” On the other piece of paper, using the word “HOLIDAY,” complete the following, “ BEACH, MOUNTAINS, SELF, SIN, SADNESS, SHAME and WORRY.") Lesson: The two pieces of paper I hold in my hands look very much alike. But I think we can discover some vast differences. The first reads, “HOLY DAY,” and the other, “HOLIDAY.” Did you ever stop to realize that Sunday can either be a holy day or a holiday? To some it is never anything but a holy day. To others it is nothing but a holiday. We shall open the first and see what is to be found in a “HOLY DAY.” On the inside we find, “ CHURCH, WOR SHIP, HELPING NEEDY, GLADNESS, PEACE and JOY.” The things men tioned on this paper were found in the life of Christ. He went into the syna gogue on the Sabbath day, with those who worshiped there. He helped the needy on the holy day. (Matt. 12:9-13.) Gladness, peace, and joy will fill the heart of the one who follows Christ’s example in the use of God’s holy day. We shall now look into the paper Nov. 30, 1952

the gospel, for we read, “ Go ye there fore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teach ing them to observe all things whatso ever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matt. 28:19,20). Christ’s call for “ TRUTH TELLERS” is not only for men and women but boys and girls as well. Boys and girls have often been used by Christ as “ TRUTH TELLERS” in their home, at school and at play. D e a l i n g W i t h D o u b t s Objects: A compass, a small iron rod, and a small piece of iron chain. Lesson: What is this I hold in my hand? “ A compass,” I hear someone say. This compass reminds me of John the Baptist. There was a time when he pointed to Jesus, and said, “ Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” He pointed to Christ so effectively that his own disciples left him and followed Christ. This compass, like John, is pointing steadily in one direction. Compasses, like people, do not always continue to point in the right direction. As I place this iron rod near the compass, the What is its purpose? “ To tell directions.” needle is changed from its original position. The iron chain has the same effect on the compass as the iron bar had. John, like the compass, allowed prison bars, something like this iron bar, and prison chains like this chain, to cause him to doubt that Christ was the true Messiah. Until John the Baptist was placed in jail, he had been perfectly sure that Christ was the Messiah. But when he could not see Christ at work, manifesting His power and love for the people, John doubted. Many Christians are like John. As long as things are going smoothly with them, they have no doubts; but if any kind of trouble comes their way and they cannot see God’s purpose in it, their hearts are filled with doubts. When they are sick, they begin to doubt. If they have a financial loss, they wonder why God has permitted it. Because they can not understand God’s dealing with them, these people are troubled and uncertain. There is a way to fix this compass so Nov. 23, 1952

marked “ H O L I D A Y . ” We read, “ BEACH, MOUNTAINS, SELF, SIN, SADNESS, SHAME and WORRY.” It reads like a leaf from the life of many of our acquaintances. Sunday finds them at the beach or mountains, living for self, and committing sin. Is it any won der that their hearts are filled with sad ness, shame, and worry?
