a cloud which holds billions of tons of w ater in reserve, to be showered upon the earth and bless mankind. “He bindeth up th e w aters in his thick clouds and th e cloud is not ren t under them ” (2 6 :8 ). Lord Kelvin said th a t th ere never was a rain w ithout ligh t ning. Job said, “.When he made a decree for the rain and a way for the lightning of th u n d er” (2 8 :2 6 ). A flash from th e positive and negative poles bursts the air bubbles of moisture and separates th e compactness of the clouds and causes -the heavy air to rush to gether, which causes- copious showers of rain. The Sea The sea covers three-fourths of the earth, while the land covers only one- fou rth of th e surface. Why does not the sea overwhelm the ea rth ’s surface? God arranged it so tliat there would never be a conflict. The proportion of w ater and land makes the atmosphere com fortable for man to breathe. Were it less or more either way, life would be a painful burden. God knew this and told us about it through Job: “Or who sh u t up th e sea w ith doors when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of th e womb? When I made the cloud th e garm ent thereof and thick dark ness a swaddling band for it. And broke it up for my decreed place and set b ars and doors. And said, H itherto sh alt thou come, but no fu r th er: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed” (38 :8 -11 ). Astronomy The science of the heavenly bodies has been an arena for many battles in the supposed conflict of the Bible w ith science. There is no contradiction be tween science and the Bible. The difficulty is in th e mind of the objector. The Bible is plain on every scientific fact th a t it touches. A beautiful illus tratio n is found in th e book of Job (9:7-10; 38:31-33).

W eight of th e Atmosphere The discovery of the law of gravita tion is comparatively recent. A fter the discovery no one- suspected th a t ethereal and volatile substances were affected by it. Newton demonstrated and tau g h t th a t g rav itation ’s action was universal. Galileo believed th a t th e atmosphere had weight, hu t such a thought had never dawned on th e minds of the ancients. Plato, Aris totle, Socrates and other philosophers never once hinted such a thing. Yet in the Bible it is boldly stated in plain English. Job says, “To make the weight for w inds” (2 8 :2 5 ). L iteral I meaning, “ to balance the winds.” The i weight of th e w inds keeps in balance ’ (equilibrium ) the g reat scales of th e universe. \ N ature, P rop erties and Use of L ightning Millenniums passed by before Ben jam in F ra n k lin ’s k ite experiment stir red men to set about in earnest to harness the lightning. People looked upon lightning as a monster of te rro r in th e old days, never dream ing of th e wonderful things it held in store for man. The lightning rod was th e early experiment. Today lightning has beconle an illum inator, a messenger and a motor. G reatest discoveries th a t have ever been made are in th e field of electricity. We not only use it as a therapeutic to combat diesease, bu t the telegraph, telephone, wireless, radio, etc., make us feel th a t wonders are here and ju st ahead. Job foretold it. \ He said: "C anst thou send lightning ' (electricity) th a t they may go and say unto thee,- Here we a re ? ” (3 8 :3 5 ). The Clouds ^ It is marvelous when we th ink how th a t bubbles of cool air gath er around them m ists of moisture and billions of these g ather together in th e form of
