4. P asto ral Theology. “Some pas to rs.” , 5. Exegesis. “Some teachers.” I t will be w ith th is kind of work th a t th e Lord will brighten up the firma ment of th e new heavens and by means of which He will bedeck it w ith stars. A PASSION FOiR SOULS Has the benighted soul ever caused us as much pain as some triv ial pecu niary loss has done? Have we ever felt the sm art of th e gaping wounds through which our b ro th er’s blood is pouring forth as much as we do the tin iest scratch on our own fingers? Does it sound to us like exaggerated rhetoric when a prophet breaks out, “Oh th a t my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, th a t I m ight weep night and day !” or when an apostle in calmer tones declares, “ I have great heaviness and continued sorrow of h e a rt” ? Some seeds are put to steep and swell in w ater, th a t they may be tested before sowing. The seed which we sow will not germ inate unless it be satu rated w ith our tears.—Alexander Maclaren, D. D. REVIVAL Not by a deftly planned machinery-^-;; Organization of our own invention-— Comes the celestial dew: But by the cry, born of h eart poverty, The waiting on th e Throne w ith sole intention To see w hat God will do! As large as is the promise, so shall be Its large fulfilmjent to the eyes of F a ith ; Such shall not w ait in vain. Let the soul wait in firm expectancy That God will surely do all th a t He sa ith ; On such God’s grace will rain. -^W illiam Olney.
other words;— you have here another instance of teaching, etc., as th e back ground or groundwork of m inistry, and th is m inistry to express itself in a num ber of forms, chiefly among which would be soul-saving. The Lord has given to His church five classes of tu to rs or in stru cto rs in order th a t they m ight tra in or perfect th e members of th e body of Christ, th e saints, and they are to tra in or perfect them for the work of th e m inistry. Think of this, beloved, th e next tim e you go to church and listen to a sermon from your pastor. The Lord purposes th a t sermon as a help in making you a bet te r worker for Him. He means to per fect you for th e work of m inistering. Do not disappoint Him in this. We wonder how all th is would serve as a p attern for a Bible T raining School. W hat a g rand faculty!— apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. W hat a splendid curricu lum ! _ five different professors giving five distinct courses of study. And would not such a work have the O. K. of the Holy Ghost? We th ink so. A school coming nearest to th e divine p attern could feel assured of having th e richest of God’s blessing. Let us place th is work; according to th e pat te rn given us, before us in black and white and in a somewhat crystalized form in order th a t we may get a good look a t it. 1. P roofs of a Divine Call. “Some apostles.” An apostle means, “ One sent.” Has He sent you and where or to what field? 2. Prophecy. “ Some prophets.” Allowing here, of course, the predictive element. 3. Evangelism . “ Some evangel ists.” BIBLE TRAINING SCHOOL D irector—The Holy Ghost. Courses of Study
