Each circle stands for one person. Around them both draw a large oval, p rin t over it, GOD. How th e two are one person we don’t know hu t God says so, and when we get to heaven He will explain it to us, so we will know how it is,) When Jesus comes back, He will come in beautiful clouds in the air, above the earth , and will raise th e bodies of the dead who love Him, and join them to th e ir spirits,' and will call all th e lin ing ones up, to meet Him in th e air, Golden Text: “And I will pray the F a th e r and he shall give you another Com forter th a t he may abide w ith you forever” (John 14.: 16), Outline: (1 ) His Personality. (2) His Presence. (3) His Power. In tro d u c tio n : The passage chosen for this lesson embraces many themes of g reat im portance, including: The Presence of th e Holy Spirit, vs. 18-26. The Prom ise of an Endless Life, vs. 18, 19. The Proof of His Deity, vs. 20-26. The Peace of God. vs. 27-39. The Power of th e Prince of this World, vs. 30, 31. Any one of these themes will furnish topics for study, bu t we must confine our lesson to “The Prom ise of th e Holy Spirit,” a subject of the most vital im portance to every believer. (1) HIS PERSONALITY. The T itle given to the Holy Spirit
and tak e all to Heaven. Would it not be lovely to meet Him th a t way, w ithout ever having to die? He has told us in the Bible to be ready for Him as He. may come any day. You and I may be living when He comes, and if we are we don’t want to be left behind. Memory verse: “ Behold, I come quickly, and My reward is w ith Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” When Jesus comes He will have re wards for all who love Him, and are trying to please Him. Then let us love Him, and work hard for Him, every day. ^ 14 . here is “Com forter” and our Lord uses it four times (14:16 and 26; 15:26; 16 :7 ). The word in th e original is “ parakletos” and means “ one called alongside.” The same word is found twelve times in th e epistles, where the thought of comfort is intended. Jesus was One who “ came along side” of His disciples to comfort them. Now He is going away and says He will send ano th er Comforter. Note th a t He uses the personal pronoun “He” and “H im” in each of the above in stances. This is im portant for in Rom. 8:16 an un fo rtunate tran slation oc curs in the Authorized Version, “ the Spirit itself.” This is corrected in the Revised Version to read “ th e Spirit H im self.” The Holy Spirit is a Person— th e th ird person of th e Trinity. So all of our thoughts concerning Him should be regulated by th is fact— He is a Person, one w ith the F ath e r and Son, and is so used in th e Scripture; God th e F ath er, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. (2 ) HIS PRESENCE.
