GENERATIONS OF LOVE The Gift of Laughter, Joy, and Dance From My Grandparents
I feel lucky to have had grandparents who truly cherished me, my brother, and my cousins. Having grandparents in your life is such a blessing. It’s special to be surrounded by their love and have them actively involved in your life. There’s so much wisdom and knowledge we can gain from them. The bond that spans across generations is priceless and creates memories and lessons that last a lifetime.
our way home from school (we walked, but unlike their stories, it wasn’t uphill both ways — haha!).
I remember my grandparents as loving and kind, not just to me, my brother, and my cousins, but especially to each other. They had a playful relationship, full of teasing and inside jokes. My grandpa would give my grandma a hard time, and she’d just hold up three fingers and jokingly tell him to “read between the lines.” It wasn’t until we got older that we finally caught on to what she meant! They took care of one another and were married for over 55 years before my grandfather passed away. They loved to dance and even outshined everyone at my wedding, dancing up a storm at 78 years old. As a kid, I danced with my grandpa by standing on his feet and holding his hands as he gracefully moved us around. At my wedding, he spun me until I was dizzy during a polka! They were always laughing. I can still hear my grandfather’s laugh so clearly. When we were little, he would take out his false teeth and give us a big, toothless grin just to make us giggle. Even at
Hampshire to see him one last time. I was anxious about what to say, knowing it would be our final goodbye. But he made it easy for me. He simply said, “I have no regrets and a wonderful family, so it’s okay for me to go.” That moment left a lasting impression on me, and ever since, I’ve tried to live my life in a way that would allow me to say the same when my time comes. From school events to sports games, my grandparents were there for everything. I was incredibly lucky to have their constant support. They taught me many valuable lessons, like giving out the best Halloween candy (they handed out full-sized Reese’s!). But the most meaningful lesson was the power of laughter. They showed me that life isn’t always perfect and things don’t always go your way, but if you can find joy and laughter even in tough times, those moments are much easier to get through. As I reflect on their memory, I’m filled with warmth and comfort (thanks for allowing me to reminisce). I am fortunate to have had such a close relationship with my grandparents and been blessed by their love, wisdom, and humor. Here’s to grandparents and the special multi- generational bonds we’re lucky to cherish!
On September 8, we celebrate National Grandparents Day — a time to honor the
incredible people who always make us feel like we’re the most important person in the world. My grandparents were special. They taught me the importance of laughter, generosity, supporting one another, and the joy of dancing. I’m not kidding — they loved to dance! My grandparents on my mom’s side, Grammy and Grampa B, played a significant role in my childhood, and I was lucky to have had them until I was in my late 20s and early 30s. They lived just down the street, so we didn’t just see them on holidays — we’d stop by at least once a week to say hello on REFERRALS WELCOME! A referral is the greatest compliment you could ever give us. If you know someone in need of our expert services, we welcome the opportunity to help! Feel free to pass along this newsletter, or have them give us a call at (858) 675-1133. We greatly appreciate it!
his funeral, he didn’t want it to be a sad occasion — he requested Dixieland jazz and wanted everyone to focus on the
good times we shared. That’s just the kind of person he was, always bringing joy and finding ways to keep things lighthearted. My grandfather passed away from cancer, so he knew his time was limited. By then, I was in my late 20s and flew home to New

“I came to NCWSTC to strengthen my knee, which has a 56-year- old reconstruction. In addition, I had a forced five weeks of zero activity following minor back surgery. All my muscles had atrophied and needed some rebuilding. Every week, I did all my exercises at home and two days at the gym. My strength came back, and my balance became better than ever. All this work helped me get back to golfing 2x a week, and next week, I am going back to Pickleball. Over my 24 years in San Diego, I have been to 3-4 other physical therapy locations; NCWSTC is the best of all. Every therapist I worked with was very professional and excellent.” —Stuart Gross PATIENT SUCCESS STORY HOW PT HELPED STUART GET BACK TO GOLF AND PICKLEBALL!
