Over the past four years, the Aviation Unit has made significant strides in training, development, and operations. Today, two highly skilled pilots operate the Bell OH-58 Helicopter, known as Helo1, which was acquired through the 1033 Federal Surplus Program. The unit has played a crucial role in locating five critically missing individuals and aiding in the apprehension of twelve violent suspects. Serving as a vital force multiplier for ground operations, their efforts have greatly enhanced public safety in Henry County.
K-9 EOD Team’s Precision Operations and Advanced Training One of the unit’s most defining moments came during the emergency evacuation of an officer who was shot in the line of duty. Helo1 was rapidly deployed for medical transport, ensuring the officer received urgent, life-saving care. This mission underscored the unit’s readiness and its essential role in supporting both law enforcement and the community. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) K-9 team is a vital component of the K-9 Unit, showcasing exceptional skill and reliability in dangerous situations. This specialized team plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety by conducting thorough searches of buildings, facilities, and high-profile infrastructure for potential explosive threats. In addition to operational successes, the unit has achieved major milestones in pilot training. Deputy Alexander Hartz earned his Rotorcraft Private Pilot Rating, while Sergeant Cameron Conner, Aviation commander, received his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification, further strengthening the unit’s capabilities. The EOD K-9 team has been instrumental in supporting critical incidents, large-scale events, and high-security operations, ensuring the safety of both the public and key facilities. Their expertise and precision in detecting potential threats reinforce the trust placed in their capabilities by law enforcement agencies, event organizers, and security professionals. 51
