LEGAL AFFAIRS Sheriff Scandrett recognizes the importance of having a single legal entity for consistent advice, which ensures that all units and offices within the HCSO receive coherent guidance, reducing conflicting interpretations of the law. Georgia Sheriffs’ offices frequently deal with complex matters such as civil rights issues, public records requests, and employment disputes. The HCSO Legal Affairs Office provides specialized expertise to handle these challenges effectively, which reduces risk of non-compliance lawsuits. The proactive legal review of policies, procedures and practices can support agency compliance against audits or investigations that fosters public accountability through transparency.
