A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS
27. 1907 Dietsche Postcard Ty Cobb (Batting - HOF RC) - PSA A
Highly-desirable card from the 1907 Dietsche Postcards issue, one of the earliest cards of the Hall of Fame outfielder issued in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers’ appearance in the 1907 World Series. The Dietsche issue contained two poses of Cobb - one picturing him fielding (which, it is theorized, was issued only in 1907) and one picturing him batting (which was issued in both 1907 and 1908). This particular example was issued in 1907, as indicated on the copyright date printed on the card reverse - a true rookie postcard. As prices realized for the “fielding” pose have escalated (LOTG was the first auction company to sell a low-grade “fielding” Cobb for more than $10,000 back in the fall of 2018), the “batting” pose has followed suit, with collector-grade examples beginning to approach that plateau as of late. Presented here is a strong example, graded AUTHENTIC by PSA, likely due to an upper-right corner clip. Aside from that technical flaw and some additional visible surface wear, the card is an outstanding collector-grade specimen, a clear rookie example, without Cobb’s name typeset into the foreground of the card. A collector-grade example of one of the most important and desirable cards of its era.

28. 1907 H.M. Taylor Postcard Detroit Tigers w/Ty Cobb (HOF RC) - SGC VG 3
Here’s a colorful E92-1 for your consideration. Cy Young is the quarry and he’s looking swell here against a bright orange background, which is nicely set off his gray cap and tunic. The typical “caramel cut” is not too pronounced and the staining so often found on these cards is minor and confined to a small portion of the bottom border. A little chipping is evident, but it is mild and the overall look is pleasing. The reverse tells the story of John Dockman’s Baseball Gum, with nice dark lettering. SGC has graded 64 Youngs and only 11 exceed this grade of 4. 29. 1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Cy Young (HOF) - SGC VG/EX 4
1907 H.M. Taylor Detroit Tigers team postcard, including Sam Crawford, Hugh Jennings and a young Ty Cobb. The attractive, postally-unused card has been graded VG 3 by SGC, with extremely strong eye appeal. The H.M. Taylor cards continue to grow in popularity due to the rookie-era image of Cobb. Early Cobb postcards are among the hottest collectibles in the hobby. This example is clean with lightly rounded corners, as well as light surface wear (notably at the bottom corners).
