1953 T he clubs met yet again in 1953, this time starting in the Bronx. The Yankees broke out with four
in the first inning of Game 1, capped by Billy Martin’s bases-clearing triple. After the Dodgers tied things up in the seventh, the home club broke it open with three in the 8th and held on for a 9-5 win. Johnny Sain pitched the final 3 2/3 for the victory, and helped his own cause with a big double in the eighth. In Game 2, Eddie Lopat scatted nine hits for a 4-2 win.
