Traineeships: Overview

Traineeships are for young people who are aged 16 - 24 and NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) who need additional assistance to get into employment or onto an apprenticeship. There are three types of Traineeships: Standard Traineeship: An eight-week programme - the first four weeks trainees are in college working towards Functional Skills. Trainees then complete a three-week work placement and one week to sit their English and Maths exams. Supported Traineeship: A mentor supported twelve-week programme for those with additional needs or barriers to education and employment such as low confidence, self esteem, social anxiety, etc. The first eight weeks are in college working towards Functional Skills. Trainees then complete a three-week work placement in the career field they are interested in before returning for a week to sit their English and Maths exams. Fast-Track Traineeship: A programme for trainees that already have English and Maths qualifications at the required level for an apprenticeship but need work experience and employability skills. This programme lasts between three to eight weeks depending on the needs of the trainee.
