The Best Resources for Productivity and Well-Being in 2019

W e’re entering the second month of the new year, and I have an important question for you: What have you accomplished? Are you still working toward your goals and New Year’s resolutions? It’s okay if the answer is no. I’m not here to judge you for falling behind or letting life carry you for a while. I am here to help you beat that slump. This month, I want to share with you the best resource I discovered in 2018. It created the next level of my productivity and wellbeing, and I know it can do the same for you. Building FromRock Bottom First, I want to say that I know what it’s like to feel unproductive. I know what happens when you let yourself be pulled around by the tides of life. In the summer of 1984, I was 24 years old and at rock bottom. I wasn’t following God, I wasn’t close to my own family, I was working 80 hours a week for a restaurant chain, and I was involved in things I shouldn’t have been involved in. It wasn’t a good place to be, but I didn’t know how to get out. Thankfully, I was introduced to the world of personal development and self-improvement. One of the first self-improvement books I read was “The University of Success” by Og Mandino. It turned my life around at the point when I needed it the most. I moved back to North Carolina, lived with my grandparents for three months, and prayed to God every day that He would give me a second chance. My prayers were answered, and I’ve spent the rest of my life vowing to never get swept up by the tide again. I read many other self-improvement books that summer, and countless more in the following years, but “University of Success” remains one of my favorites. No other book or system made me feel as motivated or inspired as I did when reading Mandino’s book and following the action steps at the end of each chapter. powerful yet simple daily planner that incorporates all the aspects of what makes us successful. For decades, I have studied the principles of how to get to the next level and be more productive, effective,

and balanced in life. I’ve continuously looked for ways to be successful in business while still maintaining strong, healthy relationships with friends, family, and God. The SELF Journal takes all the lessons and strategies I’ve learned over the years and combines them into one system. It’s a planner and a journal compiled into one. The SELF Journal focuses on 13 weeks at a time and divides these weeks into three distinct daily, weekly, and monthly sections. Everything you do in each section is guided by your Big Goal — the thing you want to achieve at the end of the 13 weeks. This isn’t a system focused solely on helping you lose weight or advance your business. There are elements built into the SELF Journal that will help you practice gratitude, gain a better understanding of yourself, and become a well-balanced person. A Better Daily Routine There are so many things I love about the SELF Journal. For example, when you write down your Big Goal, you sign a contract with yourself, vowing to take action to achieve that goal. There’s power in putting ink on paper. A mentor of mine told me once, “Jay, cut the gab and get on the pad.” One of my favorite parts of this system is how it structures the daily sections.
