Sixty years strong Bosch Rexroth Africa gears up for its next growth chapter By Nelendhre Moodley
Mining remains Bosch Rexroth Africa’s largest market, with growing demand for minerals and metals driving investment in mining projects across the continent.
Celebrating 60 years in business, Bosch Rexroth Africa has built its success on supplying custom-designed parts and components tailored to the African market. Now, with six decades of experience behind it, the company is firmly focused on its next phase of growth, said Chris Riley, Regional President of Bosch Rexroth Africa and CEO of Bosch Rexroth South Africa, during a media briefing held as part of the company’s anniversary celebrations.
R iley attributed Bosch Rexroth Africa’s longevity to its people, describing them as “the foundation of every lasting achievement”, and the company’s unwavering commitment to building strong client relationships. These, he said, will remain central to its strategy as it expands its regional footprint and strengthens partnerships across Africa and the globe. Bosch Rexroth Africa, a subsidiary of the larger Bosch Group, is an engineering company focused on industrial automation, drive, and control technologies (including hydraulics, pneumatics, electric drives, and linear motion). According to Riley, the company’s success is rooted in its ability to deliver solutions tailored to African operating conditions, with a focus on improving production, reducing costs, and maximising reliability. “Our strength lies in delivering customised engineering solutions rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. As a multi-brand business, we can address a broad range of operational challenges, helping customers improve productivity, reduce operating costs and maximise uptime.” He added that reliability remains a key differentiator, noting that while lower-cost alternatives may offer upfront savings, the long-term cost of equipment failure and production downtime is far greater. Ultimately, Bosch Rexroth Africa aims to become
a long-term partner to its customers, working alongside them to optimise operations and deliver sustainable value. This customer-centric approach has supported Bosch Rexroth Africa’s expansion across the continent, with new offices established in Ivory Coast and Tunisia. The company, which operates in 45 countries on the African continent, is growing its export footprint with products reaching destinations including the Middle East (Saudi Arabia) and the US. “We are already supplying equipment and components to customers in the Middle East and have recently begun supplying the US mining sector from South Africa. We’ve also received enquiries from Mexico, are currently supporting projects in India, and are engaged in discussions with potential customers in Australia. This growing international footprint reinforces our position as a centre of competence for mining solutions.” Strong demand for minerals and metals Mining remains the company’s core market, accounting for roughly 70% of its African business. “We maintain a strong focus on serving the mining sector and supporting its continued growth. Our footprint extends from operations in Morocco through to mining customers in South Africa, giving us broad exposure to some of Africa’s most significant mining
