&/#3&'r#3*&'4 10 YEARS SINCE WDMH RENOVATIONS Ten years ago, local communities celebrated the official opening of the new and renovated Winchester District Memorial Hospital. The $60 million project included new services and expanded spaces to support care close to home. Innovations included a new Emergency Department, a state-of- the-art CT Scanner, the second digital mammography unit in the region, and other new technologies. While the official ceremony took place on March 27, 2009, celebrations also took place a month earlier as WDMH coordinated the big move day. Mrs. Audrey Ennis led the way as the first patient trans- ferred from the old wing to the new hospital. – Francis Racine RUSSELL KIN CLUB SEEKS INPUT The Kin Club of Russell is seeking Russell village residents’ input regar- ding two new welcome to Russell signs they are designing and building. Sign Committee chairs Ash Babber and David Picard emphasized the signs should be reflective of Russell Village’s heritage, personality and character. Residents of the Village of Russell can confirm their thoughts and choices at https://kinclubofrussell.ca/russell-sign for the next two weeks until April 10. The signs will be placed on Castor St., just by the bike path between Russell and Embrun, and also on Craig St., close to Boundary Road – Francis Racine MEASLES VACCINATION ADVISORY The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) reminds all residents to make sure that measles vaccinations are up-to-date for both adults and children. The warning follows on recent reports of measles outbreaks in Western Canada and parts of the United States. TThe measles vaccine is available free of charge from local doctors and medical clinics. The EOHU also has vaccine available and staff will do vaccinations. Phone toll-free to 1-800- 267-7120 to book an appointment.– Gregg Chamberlain
UNE RÉCOMPENSE BIEN MÉRITÉE POUR UNE CLASSE DE L’ESCC La Municipalité de La Nation a tenu à remercier ses bénévoles le 23 mars dernier, lors d’une soirée qui se tenait à Saint-Albert. Un résident de chaque quartier a été nommé bénévole de l’année. On voit, de gauche à droite, les récipiendaires accompagnés du conseiller municipal de leur quartier : la bénévole pour le quartier 3 (groupe communautaire de Saint-Albert), Louise Cayer- Deslauriers, le conseiller du quartier 3 Danik Forgues; le conseiller du quartier 2, Alain Mainville, le bénévole pour le quartier 2, Roger Bourgon; la bénévole du quartier 1, Alice Vallée, la conseillère du quartier 1, Marie-Noëlle Lanthier; la bénévole pour le quartier 4, Stéphanie McLeod, et le conseiller du quartier 4, Francis Brière. « C’est grâce à des bénévoles comme eux que les résidents de La Nation peuvent participer à une variété d’évènements tout au long de l’année », a dit le maire François St-Amour. —photo fournie
Le 8 mars dernier, la classe d’Initiation à la vie communautaire et du travail (classe composée d’élèves ayant un handicap de développement), de l’École secondaire catholique de Casselman, s’est vue remettre un chèque au montant de 1000 $ par la Banque Royale du Canada qui a retenu le projet d’alimentation et d’autonomie que les élèves et leur enseignante avaient soumis.
