From the first day, students jump directly into the fundamentals of system installation, maintenance, and repair. They learn how heating and cooling units operate, how air moves through buildings, how refrigeration systems preserve the food we depend on, and how plumbing systems safely transport water in and out of homes and businesses. Students work with furnaces, boilers, air conditioning units, refrigerants, pumps, motors, piping, smart thermostats, and modern energy-efficient control systems. In the second year, students advance to more complex system diagnostics, efficiency testing, refrigeration cycles, modern energy technologies, and integrated HVAC/plumbing designs used in today’s high-performance buildings. Our HVAC & Plumbing program is about mastering the systems that keep modern life running. From installing furnaces to maintaining refrigeration units and ensuring clean, safe water flow, students gain the expertise that keeps homes, businesses, and public spaces operating smoothly. Our hands- on curriculum mirrors real industry practice, giving students the confidence to work with professional-grade tools, diagnose system issues, and maintain essential mechanical systems.

HVAC & Plumbing Year 1 This program builds foundational skills in HVAC and plumbing, covering shop safety and codes, heating and cooling systems, refrigeration, and piping fundamentals. Students gain hands-on experience with electrical components, smart thermostats, blueprint reading, and code compliance with NFPA, Maine Heating, and
State Plumbing standards. HVAC & Plumbing Year 2
Second-year students advance to system diagnostics, efficiency testing, and advanced plumbing installation. Coursework covers refrigeration technologies, high- efficiency energy systems, and integrated HVAC/ plumbing design, along with professional skills and apprenticeship preparation.

Through these projects, students not only apply theoretical knowledge but also gain confidence in tackling real- world mechanical and plumbing challenges. Residential Wiring & Comfort System Install Year One Project
Students will simulate installing a complete residential HVAC system based on provided blueprints, focusing on ductwork layout, thermostat placement, and code-compliant equipment installation from start to finish.

Furnace Diagnostic & Repair Bay Year Two Project
Students a malfunctioning furnace using industry- standard diagnostic tools, working through a checklist of ignition, airflow, and electrical faults to identify and correct the issue — just as a service call would unfold in the field. will troubleshoot
Whole-House Plumbing Rough-In Year Two Project
Students will plan and assemble a full residential plumbing rough-in on a training wall, running supply and drain lines to code, fitting valves and fixtures, and pressure-testing the system for leaks before final sign-off.

As buildings become more energy-efficient and climate control more essential to daily life, the demand for skilled HVAC and plumbing technicians continues to grow. With the expansion of smart thermostats, high-efficiency systems, and modern water infrastructure, HVAC and plumbing technicians play a vital role in keeping homes, schools, and businesses safe, comfortable, and running. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of HVAC technicians is projected to grow by 8% between 2024 and 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations, while plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters are projected to grow 4% over the same period. This growth is attributed to continued construction, the replacement of aging systems, and rising demand for energy-efficient technology in homes and businesses. As such, pursuing a career in HVAC and plumbing offers not only stability but also ample opportunities for advancement and specialization in an essential, evolving industry.

SUBMIT ONLINE APPLICATION Complete the brief online application at www.r10tech.org. Submission of this form will send an e-mail to parents requesting their signature. Thus, the parent’s e-mail address is needed for this form.
VISIT THE SCHOOL & MEET INSTRUCTOR Once your application is received, you’ll be invited to visit our school. Your application becomes valid only after meeting with the program instructor. Your guidance counselor will arrange this visit
APPLICATION CONSIDERATION PROCESS After your school visit, our administration, in coordination with your guidance counselor, will evaluate if Region 10 is the right fit for you. You will be notified by mail.
EARLY CONSIDERATION Due to our low student-to-teacher ratio, our classes tend to reach capacity rapidly. If you were waitlisted last year or are genuinely committed to securing a spot in a program at Region 10, we encourage you to submit your application early for Early Consideration. During a brief window from mid-November to early December, we accept early consideration applications, which often receive priority consideration as they demonstrate a strong commitment from the student.
