M usical overtones are often a pleasant sound experience. This is especially true of Christmas music where the overtones are of a spiritual nature. The coming of the Babe of Bethlehem brought salvation, peace, joy, present and future security. No musical creation of man’s, however magnificent, every produced such ov ertones. But something has happened to Christmas music around the world to day. The Red scourge has preemptor- ily abolished this “religious nonsense.” Nations enlightened by Christian principles are soft-pedaling the origi nal Christmas story because of its “controversial” c o n t e n t . So-called Christian nations have lost the story of that first Christmas day. Christmas carols have been thrown out of many schools. These are too “ sectarian.” A reindeer of red-nosed fame and “White Christmas” have been substi tuted. Santa has supplanted Jesus Christ; drunken revelries take the place of spiritual rejoicing. My heart is sickened by all the cheap, spurious substitutes to which my children are exposed. “Mama, I just love to think about Christmas. I told Stan how Jesus came to earth as a baby. He didn’t know much about Him or how Christmas started. I wonder why.” Mark’s question haunts me. Why has nobody told Stan the story of God’s redeeming love given to all the world that first Christmas night? Could it be that his parents do not know? In that case, what greater “ gift” can I give to Jesus Christ than to tell Stan’s parents why He came to earth that wondrous night some 1900 years ago? “ For unto us a child is bom, unto us a son is given . . .: his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The ev erlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). He is the best gift of all! All the souls UNDER THE PAR SONAGE ROOF and those related, but because of weddings, living else where, wish all our Reader-Friends a most blessed Christmas season as you witness to your neighbor next door.
