It has been lovely to welcome students back to school after the half term break. I would like to apologise for the delay returning after we were forced to close the school on Tuesday due to issues with the water supply.
I would like to thank all the parents and carers who attended the Year 9 Options Information Evening before half term. I hope that this was useful and helped you to discuss GCSE choices and future career aspirations with your child over half term. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students are now coming to the end of their courses. This week Year 13 have been completing their final mocks before their A level examinations in the summer. Year 11 students have also been involved in assessments in Music and Food Technology and our Art students have submitted their coursework portfolios for assessment. On Tuesday our Year 10 Textile students visited the V&A to see the sold out Chanel exhibition. Chanel is one of the set designers at GCSE so it was a great opportunity for the students to see the fabulous collection. I am looking forward to seeing many parents at tonight’s PTA Quiz, not only to raise funds for the school but also to have the opportunity to come together as a community. We are also reaching out to parents who may be able to support either a Sixth Form Careers event or our Silent Auction. Please see the end of the bulletin for more information.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
The Charlie Waller Trust have just launched their new series of free mental health webinars, starting on Monday 4 March. They are presented by expert mental health trainers from CWT and guest speakers who come from a wide range of professions and expertise. The webinars explore practical, evidence-based information and strategies. Topics include: Helping your child understand their emotions and practical strategies to help, Spotting signs that new students are struggling settling in and how to support, Self harm - spotting the signs and providing support, Knowing when a friends struggling and understanding how to help, Spotting signs that a young person is struggling with their mental health. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 9
It has been lovely to welcome back Year 9 to school. Hopefully the half term holiday offered students a chance to refresh and recharge. This week has been a bit of a shorter week, but it has been lovely to see Year 9 students getting back into the swing of school life, as well as restarting their extra curricular activities. The week before half term we hosted an Options Information Evening for Year 9 students and families in order to help prepare parents and carers to support their children in making this important decision. A reminder that the google form needs to be completed by Friday 1 March. The form is on your child’s tutor group google classroom. February is LGBTQ+ history month. Before the half term, Year 9 had an assembly with Mr Isted to celebrate LGBTQ+ history month. The assembly explored the impact that historical figures have had on supporting the movement as well as considering why it is important that this event is celebrated. In form time, Year 9 have therefore been researching influential people who have furthered the cause for equality in the LGBTQ+ community. Massive congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 Football team for winning the Richmond schools Football tournament on Monday 5 February. All players contributed to the team’s success and the students came away with a gold medal! The students should all feel so proud of their performance, the standard of play was extremely high. This week 9EJO are at the top of the epraise leaderboard. They are closely followed by 9SPI. Well done! We are also asking that parents and carers perform a stationery check as at this time of year those pencil cases that were bulging with equipment in September are now likely to be somewhat depleted. On top of the usual pens, pencils and ruler, please ensure that your child has a purple pen (used for self-assessment of classwork) and a whiteboard pen (used for quick assessments of learning in the lesson).

The 1000 year old boy by Welford Ross
The 1000 year old boy is about Alfie Monk who is a thousand year old but his mother sadly passes away in a fire and he no longer finds the appeal in his long life. Therefore he sets out to find the answers to become an average teenager. I found it really interesting to hear about his experiences and how it shapes his personality.

APPRENTICESHIP FOCUS EVENT - SUPPORT NEEDED
As part of our Sixth Form Careers Insight, we have organised an Apprenticeship Focus Event for our Year 12 students on Tuesday 30 April. This event will help our students explore options and gain insights into apprenticeship pathways into different industries.
To make this event successful we are looking for companies who run apprenticeship schemes who can join us for the event and talk to students informally in small groups.

A little help goes a long way … The next events to raise vital funds for the school will be our Silent Auction at the end of March. We really need your help in making this event happen. Please do take a moment to look at the requests on the below link and if you could sign up for the event, it would really make a difference to the success of raising vital funds for the school which directly benefits the students.
