e are on the cusp of the next digital revolution in education. Over the past decade, many aspects of our lives have moved to digital: everything from paying bills to watching our favourite movies, to studying for professional qualifications. This trend has only accelerated over the past year – but some areas are still lagging when it comes to digital transformation – and assessment is often one of them. In a world in which technological competencies are a key part of student development, online assessment is the next logical step to bridging the digital divide. Virtual learning environments are commonplace and widely used, but – thus far – digital assessment has often been limited to coursework uploads and emergency measures introduced during Covid-19 to keep students progressing. However, as institutions around the world consider how to implement a dedicated digital assessment platform, there are growing examples of good practice demonstrating how Business Schools are turning concepts into functional requirements, piloting platforms, and rolling out solutions with both pedagogy and operational process at their heart. A platform should not dictate Business School teaching – but nor should a past process hamper current innovation, and there is the potential for e-assessment to help to create a more authentic evaluation process for students, alongside greater efficiency for administrators. AMBA & BGA, in association with Inspera, gathered international Business School leaders to a roundtable discussion to discuss challenges and future needs and to consider how digital examination providers and Business Schools can influence each other’s agendas. The collaborative session allowed for an insightful conversation about how educators, innovators and operational staff could work together to find the right solution for examinations moving forward. Here are some highlights from the meeting.
