The Guntersville Wildcats roared past In DeKalb County, action Geraldine whipped Plainview 41-21. Collinsville defeated Section 34-14. Valley Head moved
to 3-0 overall with a 57- 35 victory over Decatur Heritage. Fort Payne downed Mae Jemison 49-8. Ider (2-1) dropped their first game of the year, falling to Whitesburg Christian 25-18. Sylvania fell to Piedmont 40-7. In Jackson County, the Pisgah Eagles picked up their third straight win of the season. Mason Holcomb passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another one in a 41-14 Class 2A, Region 7 win over Sand Rock. He finished 5-of-9 passing for 110 yards. Lucas McDaniel led Sand Rock’s defense with 11.5 tackles in the loss.
Crossville 64-0 to give head coach Lance Reese his 101st career victory at Guntersville, making him the winningest coach in school history. He passed the previous leader, Joe Chorba, who served 13 years as head coach at Guntersville from 1948-1960. Reese (101-37) is in his 13th season as head coach of the Wildcats. Brindlee Mountain picked up their second win of the season with a 52-28 Class 3A, Region 7 triumph over Asbury. Kalob Ford earned AHSAA honors after scoring four second-half rushing touchdowns in the accounted for all five of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns in a 34-21 win over Plainview on Thursday, September 8, 2022, in a week where weather forced many teams to play games a night earlier than usual. Against Plainview Hayes was 18-of-23 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns, giving him 128 career passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 104 yards and three scores. With the performance, Hayes moved just two touchdowns away from the AHSAA career state record of 175 set by Lanett’s Kristian Story. It also moved Hayes past former Pinson Valley quarterback Bo Nix, for the most career Touchdowns passes thrown. Nix closed his prep career with 127 touchdown passes. Brody Epps led the Piedmont defense, accounting for 14 tackles in the Class 3A Region 6 victory over the visiting Bears. Piedmont teammate Rhett Alford added 11 stops. Chance Murphy blocked an extra point and recovered an onside kick. He also finished with 10 tackles on defense. All four Piedmont Players were mentioned in the AHSAA weekly honors for their efforts on the girdiron. Geraldine’s Carlos Mann also received state recognition after he gained 152 yards on 21 rushing attempts in a 23-2 win over Hokes Bluff in Class 3A, Region 6 action. Mann scored two touchdowns and made two interceptions on defense in the game.

In a Marshall County rivalry, and Class 5A Region 7 matchup, the Arab Knights defeated Douglas 40-6. Patrick Lawler earned defensive honors with 13 tackles for Arab in the win. Boaz fell to 0-3 following a 36-12 loss to Scottsboro and Florence rolled past Albertville 49-7.

three touchdowns to help the Knights beat Sardis 42-0 in Class 5A, Region 7. Carson Chesnut had a hand in all five of the Sand Rock Wildcats’ touchdowns in a 35-6 win at Section. He completed 11-of-14 pass attempts for 127 yards and an 11-yard score. He also ran for 100 yards on just six carries. He had four touchdowns, scoring on 1-yard, 28-yard, 13-yard, and 48-yards runs. K’rysiaz Yow had eight tackles, including one sack and another for loss, in the Gadsden City Titans’ 18-0 win against Fort Payne in Class 6A, Region 8. Titan Teammate Elijah Taylor added 7.5 tackles with a sack and an interception. Guntersville Wildcats remained undefeated with a 40-6 win over Marshall County rival Douglas. The Sylvania Rams moved to 2-1 with a 42-14 victory over Ohatchee. The Ider Hornets dropped their 2022 homecoming game, falling to NSM 42-18. The Albertville Aggies fell to Sparkman 53-0.
Holcomb the spotlight after he threw three touchdown passes to Jakob Kirby in a 40-28 Class 2A Region 7 win over Collinsville. Holcomb finished the game with 247 yards passing on the night. Teammate Fox Tinker also earned state honors after he returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown against Collinsville. Keaton Deboard led joined the visiting Panthers. He ran the ball 22 times for two touchdowns of 63 yards and six yards. He had a total of 175 yards in the game. Tyler Pierce had an impressive night to help the Boaz Pirates earn the program’s first win of the year. Pierce was 11-of-17 passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the Pirate’s 55-0 victory over Crossville. Boaz Receiver Gavin Smart had three catches for 95 yards and two touchdown catches from Pierce. The Arab Knights moved to 4-0 overall thanks to the performance of quarterback Aidan Cox.
