HARMONSON HEADLINES YOUR GUIDE TO PERSONAL INJURY IN THE BORDERLAND DECEMBER 2022
OUR DEDICATION TO THE PEOPLE OF THE BORDERLAND
THROUGH HARD WORK AND COMPASSION
Last month, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Harmonson Law Firm! I can’t give enough thanks because if it weren’t for our amazing clients, my family and friends, and the team, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I’m thankful for my late father for convincing me to move to El Paso back in 2004 and Tommy Gilstrap for giving me a start and teaching me the ropes of the law business. I’m thankful to Sheri for believing that we could make it on our own — here’s to never missing a single paycheck in 10 years! I’m thankful for our kids putting up with me, especially when I get stressed with work, and for my mom, who moved to El Paso around the time I started the firm. She has been with us about every single day since then, encouraging and helping us. But most importantly, I’m grateful to the clients that we have served to make this happen. We are just shy of helping 1,000 people — that’s a lot of lives that we have touched, but it isn’t so many that we haven’t gotten to know each and every one of them! I’m also grateful for all the children we have helped who have received college funds and other finances to assist them when they become adults as well as the victims of medical malpractice who have seen justice served. It is our job to help ensure our hospitals and health care providers practice safe medicine in this community. We have helped so many people who have been injured, some catastrophically and some who just needed a helping hand with minor injuries in car and truck accidents. I’m incredibly proud of our hard work to help get drunk drivers off the roads too.
If you put your mind to it, you can truly accomplish anything. But you can’t do it alone. I’m so thankful for my family, Rosie, Hadley, and Stephen Stewart, who have been on this journey alongside me. Our team has worked diligently over the years, and the outcomes of these cases prove that we are doing right by our clients. You may be wondering what’s in store for us in the next 10 years. Well, we will continue helping the people of the borderland get the justice they deserve! I want to focus more on helping people with catastrophic injuries, serious medical malpractice and personal injury, car, truck, and others, and being there for our clients through these challenging situations. I don’t have plans to grow to a level where I don’t have hands-on assistance with our clients. Our small, tightknit firm has built relationships that we hold close to our hearts over the years, and I want to keep it that way. That’s what makes the job worth it all.
Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and happy New Year to all. See you in 2023!

Car accidents on their own can be frightening, but when it’s a large commercial truck, it can be even more traumatic. Knowing ahead of time how you should respond after a truck accident may help you and your case in the long run! Call New Mexico emergency services. An essential first step is to ensure everyone is out of harm’s way. You can achieve this by doing the following: • Check to see if you or anyone inside your vehicle is injured, and call for emergency services if needed. Once your own vehicle is secured, you can check on the other vehicles involved. • Pull your car to the side of the road and out of traffic if possible. • If there are no immediate injuries, be sure to visit a doctor later for a check-up. After ensuring your safety, you must call the police and file a police report. These reports are important documents for insurance purposes and personal injury lawyers, so let the police know as much information as you can remember. TAKING THE RI NAVIGATING A TRUCK ACCIDENT W
The holidays are rapidly approaching, and soon, we’ll share laughs while enjoying the festivities with our loved ones. Before the celebrations begin, you must prepare your home for visitors, especially if they stay overnight. It can be stressful whether it’s your in-laws, best friends, or distant cousins coming to stay with you. You want to leave a good impression, but how do you ensure everyone’s needs are met, including yours? Here are three tips for setting yourself up for a successful holiday, regardless of who stays with you. Stock up on your guests’ favorites. Have you ever stayed with someone who didn’t have extra food for their guests? Don’t put your guests in this situation. Load up your pantry, refrigerator, and cupboards with your guests’ favorite foods and drinks. If you don’t know what they are, ask ahead of their visit! Your guests will appreciate your conscientious gesture and have a much more enjoyable time if they can eat their favorites while visiting. Prepare a guest room. If your guests are staying with you, you need to prepare somewhere for them to sleep. Make sure you make up the bed, have plenty of pillows and blankets on hand, and provide adequate closet space for their clothes. Even if they aren’t staying in a traditional bedroom, their sleeping area should still be ready when they arrive. Clear off a table for them to use as a nightstand and put sheets on the couch or mattress where they’ll sleep.
Exchange insurance information with the other driver . After the police and emergency medical services are called — if necessary — it’s important to exchange insurance

Use real dishes. When we have company over for a meal,
especially a large gathering, it’s usually easier to use plastic or paper options — saves on cleanup, too! The holidays are not necessarily the time for this shortcut. Break out the fine china if you have it, or use regular dishes for your guests. It’s okay for the kids to have paper plates, but if you want to make a good impression on visiting adults, nicer dishes will dress up the table setting and meal.

Nothing is more important to older individuals than independence, and when age slowly starts to catch up to them, it can be challenging to continue doing the things they love. During the first week of December, we aim to bring awareness of older driver safety to all those on the roads! Driving helps older adults stay independent later in life. It allows them to go to their doctors’ appointments, participate in their favorite activities, get to the grocery store, and visit family, and it helps them maintain a sense of self-confidence. Even though older adults are the least likely to be drivers in car accidents, unfortunately, they are more likely to be injured or killed in an accident because of age-related vulnerabilities. Some may have fragile bones or medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, or another illness that make it harder for them to recover from severe injuries. As they age, older adults also experience reduced eyesight, impaired hearing, sleep disorders, and physical disabilities that can make driving more difficult. Aging also tends to reduce strength, coordination, and flexibility, which affects a person’s ability to control a vehicle safely. Though there are some challenges for older drivers due to age and health conditions, there are still ways to keep them safe on the roads if they want to continue driving. DON’T HANG UP THE KEYS JUST YET! CONTINUE STRIVING FOR INDEPENDENCE

information with the other party involved. You can take a picture with a phone or write the pertinent information on paper.
Remember, apologies or regrets can be interpreted as an admission of fault. In the case of a commercial truck, the trucking company will likely have lawyers looking for ways to avoid liability. Gather evidence. The evidence you gather from the truck accident scene is imperative for your attorney with their investigations. Write notes of everything you can remember about the accident, as well as the contact information of any witnesses, and take photos and videos of the scene. Contact your insurance agency. Most insurance companies have rules about how quickly you need to report your accident, so it’s ideal to call and open a claim as soon as possible. Also, consult with your attorney before signing official documents with any agency!
After all the necessary steps are taken, it’s time to call an experienced attorney from Harmonson Law Firm! Contact us at 915.584.8777, so we can help navigate you through this process and help you take the next step in recovery.

INGREDIENTS
• • • • • • • •
1/4 cup brown sugar
• • • • • •
2 bay leaves 4 thyme sprigs
If you’re an older adult or have one or several in your life, here are some tips.
1 tbsp paprika
2 tsp black pepper
2 rosemary sprigs 1/2 cup beef broth
2 tsp salt
• Avoid driving at night and in bad weather. • Plan your car routes.
3 tbsp olive oil
1 12-oz bottle of stout beer 1 15-oz can diced tomatoes (with liquid)
1 5-lb bone-in rib-eye roast
• Drive only in familiar places and stay off of highways. • Discuss any medical conditions with a doctor that may affect driving — i.e., medication that causes dizziness, sleepiness, confusion, or fatigue. • Get your eyes checked frequently and wear glasses or contacts as directed. • Consider potential alternatives to driving, such as riding with a friend, public transportation, or ride-share services. Many older drivers are very safe drivers, and their years of experience in handling different road and traffic conditions are invaluable. But getting older doesn’t mean it’s time to hang up the keys for good! Instead, let’s promote the importance of mobility and transportation to ensure older people remain active in the community.

2 heads of garlic, halved

As the holiday season approaches, the twinkling lights and spectacular Christmas tree attractions are always a must-see! Here are the best travel destinations to catch a glimpse of one of the pillars of the holidays. The Rockefeller Center Tree in New York City The Rockefeller Center tree is located just west of 5th Avenue from 47th through 51st streets in New York City and dates back to the Depression era, with the first tree placed there in 1931. This beloved tourist attraction draws thousands yearly with its dazzling lights and grand scale. To even be considered a contender for this role, a tree must be at least 65 feet tall and 35 feet wide! The National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. This American favorite has long been a tradition. Every year, the ceremony begins with live performances by musical artists, and an annual highlight is when the president delivers a message of peace. President Calvin Coolidge was the first president to light the National Christmas Tree in 1923. The tree was 48 feet high and decorated with 2,500 red, white, and green electric bulbs. A local choir and a quartet from the U.S. Marine Band performed as the tree was lit. TRAVEL-WORTHY CHRISTMAS TREES LIGHTING UP LIFE ONE PINE NEEDLE AT A TIME
The Coeur d’Alene Resort Tree in Idaho Also known as the World’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree, this grand fir holds the record at 162 feet tall. It is festively decorated with more than 40,000 lights that twinkle in time to the music of “Jingle Bells,” and the tree is crowned with a 10-foot-wide star! The Biltmore Christmas Tree in North Carolina This majestic 55-foot Norway spruce tree is in front of the Biltmore Estate and lit as guests make their way down the path of luminaries. With ornaments and miles of garland, this tree is selected for the Banquet Hall each year for guests from all over to see. Some are lucky enough to live near or in a city with a magnificent tree, but if you don’t, consider traveling to one of these locations to enjoy the holiday with your loved ones.
