It’s Back-to-School Season! THE TIME HAS COME:
As we say goodbye to summer and welcome fall, get ready for pumpkin-spice everything, cooler temperatures, and of course Halloween! Halloween kicks off the holiday season and we couldn’t be more excited!
If your children are riding their bikes to school, here are some safety precautions and tips:
• Some schools do not allow their students to ride bicycles to school until they reach a specific grade- level. Check with your school to see if any guidelines are in place. • Do some research and map out the safest route between home and school and practice it with your children until they are able to demonstrate traffic safety awareness. • If possible, have your child bike to school with other children! • When riding their bikes, ensure your children are always wearing a helmet. Failure to wear one may result in a traffic citation. More importantly, helmets significantly reduce your child’s chances of seriously injuring their heads in the event of a bicycle accident. • Be sure your children are educated on and obey the rules of the road. The same rules that apply to cars apply to bicyclists! • Make sure your child knows and uses all of the appropriate hand signals to let drivers know when they are turning. “It was great to see so many smiling faces and to hear about everyone’s summertime adventures.”
It certainly was a busy summer! As you can imagine with kids being out of school for the summer, everyone was sure to schedule their appointments over the last few months. It was great to see so many smiling faces and to hear about everyone’s summertime adventures. Now, kids are back to school as we return to a bit of normalcy right before the holidays. As a reminder, be sure to follow all speed limits in and around school zones and bus stops! It’s also a good time to brush up on your school bus safety reminders!
Here’s what you need to keep in mind about school buses:
• Yellow flashing lights on a school bus indicate that drivers need to slow down. The bus is preparing to stop to pick up students waiting to get on the bus or to drop students off. It’s likely that parents are waiting nearby to pick up their children. • Red flashing lights on a school bus indicate drivers must stop and remain at least 20 feet behind the bus as children are getting on or off the school bus. You must remain stopped until the red lights are no longer flashing, the red extended stop arm is no longer visible, and the school bus begins moving. • Be on the lookout for children around all school buses. As you back out of a driveway or drive through your neighborhood, school zone or bus stop, remain vigilant!
We wish all of our families a happy and healthy 2022-2023 school season and look forward to seeing you at your next appointment! Be well!

When can I use FMLA leave? An eligible employee can be granted up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for the following reason(s): • Birth of and/or bonding with a newborn child • The placement of a child for adoption or foster care with the employee • To care for an immediate family member with a serious condition (child, spouse, or parent, but does not include parent in-laws) • To take medical leave when the employee is unable to work due to a serious health condition • For qualifying exigencies arising out of the fact that the employee’s spouse, child, or parent is on covered active duty or call to covered active-duty status as a member of the National Guard, Reserves, or Regular Armed Forces The FMLA exists so employees can tend to their families without worrying about their job, allowing them to provide the best care for their loved ones. For more information regarding whether or not your company is eligible for FMLA, check out your local government agency for more details. Preserving the Balance of Work and Family Life LIFE CAN BE UNPREDICTABLE
Workers shouldn’t have to choose between the job they need and the family members they love. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) was created to allow employees to take reasonable unpaid leave for a particular family or medical reason so they can maintain a work/life balance. What does it provide? The FMLA provides eligible employees up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave a year with the requirement of group health benefits to be maintained during the leave as if employees were continuing to work. They are also entitled to resume their same or equivalent job at the end of their FMLA leave. Who is eligible for FMLA? FMLA applies to all public agencies, all public and private elementary and secondary schools, and companies with 50 or more employees. Employees can be eligible for FMLA if they have worked for their employer for at least 12 months, worked at least 1,250 hours over the past 12 months, and work at a location that employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles.

“I felt well cared for by a competent and pleasant staff.” –NELL P.
“Great staff! My 3-year-old actually LOVES going to the dentist because EVERYONE in the building makes him feel included, safe, and in control. If he is unsure about anything, they don’t ignore his fears; they recognize them and react appropriately. That’s important for a little one in a big scary wide world!” –STEPHANIE W.

Think Positive: Don’t Let the News Get You Down
3 Ways to Get Out of a Gloomy Headspace
Sept. 13 is National Positive Thinking Day. When we’re surrounded by negative news, it can be easy to get sucked into pessimism. So, here are some ways to help you get out of a negative headspace this Positive Thinking Day. Waking Up the Optimistic Way An easy way to celebrate is to begin your day with positive affirmations. As soon as you wake up, say a few kind things to yourself. It may sound silly, but studies have shown that speaking kindly to yourself lessens anxiety, stress, and depression. Self- compassion has also resulted in greater happiness and better coping skills.
yourself say them. If you don’t know where to start,
some positive examples are: “I love myself,” “I’m so lucky to have friends and family who care about me,” and “I can get through anything.” Searching for Positivity It is a good idea to take some time throughout the day to read or watch motivational materials. Fill National Positive Thinking Day with the encouraging words or experiences of others. Learning about someone else who might be going through — and overcoming — a tough time can help us feel less alone and give us a road map for dealing with our own unsolved troubles.
A great video to help you shift to a more positive mindset is “Nature. Beauty. Gratitude.” by Louie Schwartzberg. Calling Positive People This would be a great time to think of your friends who are just plain fun to be around. Spend time with these people, either on the phone or in person, and share some happy stories. Relaying positive experiences, big or small, can help us continue doing our best. While Sept. 13 is one day of the year, these positivity tips can help you for a lifetime. Remember, the negativity we see or think distracts us from the extraordinary things life can offer.
You can speak these things aloud or in your head, as long as you’re hearing

The World Is Seeing Double
Why Are More Twins Born Now? If you have twins in your family or went to school with a pair, you know just how fun and amazing they are — especially when they are identical. Back in the day, it was fairly rare to personally know twins, and if you were lucky enough to know them, it was fun to see what their similarities and differences were. However, today, according to statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics, the number of twins being born is skyrocketing. In fact, since 1980, the number of twin births has risen by 70%. But what is the reason behind this spike? There isn’t just one explanation — several factors have greatly contributed to the rise in the birth of multiples. A mother’s age plays a crucial role in the possibility of conceiving twins. As women age, they are more likely to release more than one egg during ovulation. For women under the age of 25, the possibility of having twins is only
roughly 2%. However, women aged 35–49 have a 5% chance of delivering twins. Because many women are waiting longer than earlier generations to get married and start families, they have children later in their lives, which increases the chance of having twins. Another reason behind the uptick in twin deliveries is the increase of fertility treatments in women. Many ovulation- stimulating medications, such as Clomid, Femara, and gonadotropins, can lead to more eggs being released at once, possibly resulting in multiple babies conceived at once. In vitro fertilization (IVF) also greatly increases your chances of conceiving more than one baby, as the eggs are fertilized outside of the body and returned to the uterus in hopes of successful implantation in the uterine wall.
The next time you see twins, don’t rub your eyes — you really are seeing double!
