Grupo Signs Large Order With Bobst

At Drupa 2016, Mexican paper and packaging manu- facturer, Grupo Gondi, signed a deal with Bobst and BHS Corrugated for the supply of eleven new produc- tion lines. The order will see equipment installed at ex- isting Grupo Gondi facilities in Mexico, as well as at green field sites, over the next two years. The purchase includes two complete 2.5m wide corrugators de- signed by BHS Corrugated, a Bobst pre-print press line, flat-bed Bobst diecutters, and five automated Bobst folding and gluing lines. The delivery of the equipment will commence during the last quarter of 2016. Grupo Gondi’s new Bobst 90SIX flexo press will feature repeats of up to 2060 mm and speeds of up 500 meters per minute. Its CI architecture is said to make it ideal for printing on low grammage paper while delivering graphics close to offset quality. The press will join two other 90SIX presses in the group and will be installed at an undisclosed Grupo Gondi plant by the end of 2017. Like the two presses bought by Grupo Gondi be- fore it, the new 90SIX will be equipped with smartG- PS, Bobst’s off-press impression setting system that reduces set-up waste to almost zero and allows users to produce even the smallest of orders. Another spe- cial feature of the press is a downstream unit de- signed for the application of both water-based and UV curable inks. This allows the machine to be used for all types of pre-print carton applications, includ- ing the production of premium beer packaging. Italian repro house Inci.Flex has become the first operation to automate its flexo platemaking process with Esko’s new CDI Crystal 5080 XPS. Inci.Flex chose the CDI Crystal 5080 XPS to enable it to produce a f lexo result that competes with gravure in a fast, cost-effective printing process. Inci.Flex already runs two CDI Spark 5080s with Full HD Flexo, a Kongsberg XN 22 cutting table with the Digital Flexo Suite, as well as PackEdge, Artpro, Plato, DeskPack, Studio, Automation Engine, Imaging Engine and Color Engine. The newly launched CDI Crystal 5080 XPS flexo platemaking system reported- ly innovates flexo platemaking by uniquely and si- multaneously exposing both sides of a flexo plate using UV LED heads. It also combines imaging and exposing. This reportedly results in 50 percent fewer manual steps, 30 percent faster access to plates and 73 percent less required operator time. New Features for Tubescan Tubescan has been a huge success, and many new features and product enhancements continue to be made. Three new optional features are now available: The D i s t anc e Mon i t o r i ng Module allows measuring and monitoring areas on the web and gives alarms when the actual exceeds the specified standard and tolerances defined. UV inspection uses UV illumination to perform 100% inspection of UV fluorescent security features and the like. Surface Inspection is used to inspect non printed homogeneous materials for surface defects, such as pin holes and the like. Tubescan EagleView can be seen at Label Expo in the BST North America booth, # 837.

newest model within the Tubescan® 100% inspection product line, from BST North America. Tubescan EagleView is the first 100% inspection system in the world to incorporate both a 100% inspection camera and a detail viewing camera in one system. The disadvantage of all 100% inspection systems is that while they are doing 100% inspection of the web, the camera / system cannot do anything else. But press operators still need a camera to look at the printed web; typically to inspect details such as register marks, traps, and similar print details. Tubescan EagleView has two cameras in a single housing. One camera provides 100% inspection of the material 100% of the time, while the second camera - which is on a moving traverse - simultaneously provides highly magnified images of any area or detail within the print repeat.

The detail viewing camera allows the operator to look at areas of 1¼” X 1”, at a resolution of 1600 X 1200 pixels, and is used to look at register marks, traps, reverse print, slur marks and other important print quality indicators. Tubescan EagleView models are available for webs from 10” to 22” for running speeds up to 820 feet per minute, and will perform 100% inspection and identify defects as fine as 0.3mm2.
