Recognizing that the lack of childcare was a big factor in worker retention, Rosemary Byrne founded Wee Folk as a discounted, on-site day care in 1989. Wee Folk was intended to support only Byrne employees initially, but soon opened its services to the entire community. Later they also helped a local entrepreneur open an on-site gymnastics facility there to offer after-school activities for children of employees. Today, Wee Folk is owned by Rosemary and Norm’s two youngest daughters—Molly and Kathy—and along with Director of Operations, Michelle Norton, and a dedicated staff, the team serves over 200 Rockford area children. their families, and our whole community.
