Sequence of Works
JHC have been appointed by Genco Construction to undertake Tesco to undertake the building work activities
JHC will ensure all materials, plant and tools are delivered to Tesco prior to works commencing, at an agreed time and date with the Genco Construction project team. JHC will ensure the materials and plant are stored within a designated area(s) which have been provided and agreed with by the Genco project team. JHC operatives will attend the site induction prior to starting works within Tesco following the induction process, JHC operatives will read the contents of their working methodologies/ safe system of works. Upon completion of signing the method statement, the JHC team will set to work.
Genco Construction will ensure the JHC work area is suitably prepared, and safe for works to commence.
Genco Construction will notify JHC on the known locations of live services and asbestos (if applicable) etc. and will isolate live services if required. JHC must obtain the isolation certificates. JHC operatives will be issued suitable PPE for the working operations. JHC operatives will inspect the condition of their PPE before use and report any obvious defects to their supervisor. In the event JHC require access at height, operatives will work from suitable and sufficient mobile towers, step ladders and hop ups. All access equipment will be inspected before use, and records kept within the site folder. Any debris produced by our work will be cleaned progressively throughout the working day and disposed of within the waste bins provided. JHC will ensure the working areas are cleaned, made safe and prepared for the next working day.
JHC will respect and adhere to all Tesco/ Genco Construction site rules, and procedures at all times
NOTE: The procedure outlined ensures that excavation work is carried out safely, particularly in relation to underground services and traffic management. Before any excavation begins, all necessary traffic management measures must be in place to protect both workers and the public. Once this is established, the designated excavation area must undergo a CAT scan to detect any underground services, such as electrical cables, gas pipes, or water mains. This scanning process is critical in preventing accidental strikes, which could result in serious injury, service disruptions, or even fatalities. During mechanical excavation, continuous CAT scanning should be performed at every 150mm depth increment to monitor for services that may not have been initially detected. Compliance with TESCO Safety Rules ensures that best practices are followed, reinforcing the importance of a controlled and systematic approach. No excavation work — whether by hand or using machinery — should proceed without a banksman present. The role of the banksman is to provide guidance, ensure safe digging practices, and monitor for any hazards that could arise, such as unexpected services or ground instability. When services are exposed during excavation, they must be adequately protected and supported to prevent damage. The guideline allowing a maximum unsupported span of 1 meter ensures that pipes and cables do not sag, crack, or break under their own weight, which could lead to costly repairs or dangerous situations such as gas leaks or electrical faults.
Overall, this approach prioritizes safety by integrating careful planning, continuous monitoring, and adherence to established safety regulations.
