Section 3 - Methodology & Sequence of Works

Installation of Drainage and Slab Repair -

Detailed Methodology for Drainage System Installation and Slab Repair

. Installation of the Drainage System

The drainage system will be installed as per the design and agreed specifications provided by the engineer. The installation process will begin with a thorough review of the drainage layout plans to ensure all JHC team members understand the scope and details of the work. The designated areas for the drainage system will be identified/ demarcated using a paint spray, and suitable and sufficient barriers will be installed to maintain a controlled/ excluded work area. Trenches will be excavated to the specified depth and width using an operational with a diesel filter kit to comply with emission regulations. If the trench depth exceeds 750mm, timber and props will be used to support the trench, and plywood will cover the trenches to prevent collapse. The trench supports will comply with the designs, and temporary works BS5975 The drainage pipes and components will be laid out and connected according to design. Consideration will be taken to ensure proper alignment and gradient for optimal drainage performance. All connections and joints will be securely fitted and sealed to a watertight tolerance. The installation will adhere to the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 to ensure compliance with legal standards.

Ground/ Slab Repair

Following the installation of the drainage system, the slab will be repaired according to the structural engineer's details. This process involves the careful placement and levelling of concrete to restore the slab's integrity and ensure it meets the required structural standards. The repair process will begin with the preparation of the damaged slab area. Any loose or unlevel concrete will be removed, and the surface will be cleaned to ensure proper bonding with the new concrete. A suitable bonding agent will be applied to the prepared surface to enhance the adhesion between the old and new concrete. Concrete will be mixed according to the engineer's specifications, ensuring the correct proportions of cement, aggregate, and water for the required strength and durability. The mixed concrete will be carefully placed into the prepared area, ensuring that it fills all gaps and voids. The concrete will be levelled and smoothed using appropriate tools to match the surrounding slab surface. Throughout the curing process, the concrete will be kept moist and protected from extreme weather conditions to prevent cracking and ensure optimal strength development. The curing process will be monitored to ensure it meets the required curing time and conditions specified by the engineer.

Note :

All works/ operations will comply with relevant health and safety regulations, including the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH) Regulations 2002, ensuring safe handling and disposal of materials. Operatives will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and will follow safe working practices throughout the installation and repair process. The drainage system installation and slab repair will be performed under the supervision of a SSSTS/ SMSTS qualified site manager, who shall ensure all working operations are undertaken in strict accordance with these SSoW, Regular inspections will be carried out to verify compliance with the engineer’s specifications and to address any unforeseen issues promptly.
