A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

It was great to see all our Year 8s back in school for a full week of lessons and working hard. On Tuesday this week we had an assembly led by Mr Bannister where we looked back on positive things that have happened across the world in 2024 - it was both interesting and insightful and a nice way to start the week off! Last term we were able to enjoy a range of celebrations. It was great to see Year 8 enthusiastically taking part in the Maths Quiz. It was great to see so many students enjoying solving the range of problems that were presented. There was great joy around maths. Well done to the two winning groups of the quiz and the teachers that organised and ran the event. We must also celebrate the Year 8 students who have excelled in their Maths Homework during the autumn term Caitlin R 8XJ, Nikki C 8XL, Gabriella G 8XR, Yentil NG 8XT, Izzy S 8JY, Mina R 8YR, Nazeret BM 8YT scoring the highest HP scores. Excellent work by ALL! We would like to congratulate all those students who received subject and tutor awards at the end of term celebration assembly. Well done to 8PUN who topped the table for form epraise totals with a fabulous 1116 points. Top individual epraisers were Marharyta K 8PIR with an amazing 92 points, Viola C 8SHU with 63 points, Tiffany W 8PUN and Yovela Hui with 63 points. Very well done! A reminder to all that Waldegrave Sports and Clubs will start next week - please see the full list of activities for the Spring Term on the website here. It would be great to see Year 8 being active and taking part or trying something new!

As the temperatures have dropped this week, please remind your children to wear warm coats to school and take extra care.

MRS LYDDON, HEAD OF YEAR 8

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘My name is Mina’ by David Almond

In the form of a journal, this book is a prequel for the book Skellig, and focuses on the character Mina before she has met Michael and Skellig. It focuses on her troubles with school and family and shines a light on her creativity. It is a fun, but serious book all at the same time and has many different forms of creativity like poetry and made-up stories. Overall, it’s a very personal and emotive tale, with lots of much needed honesty about school and the stories that are missed of kids who struggle in school. - Isabelle H, Y11
