“It wasn’t until about January 23 that we could start cleaning the rooms out with our assessors and builders and so forth to get everything out, and then it was about February 1 that we could start planning and moving forward. We had a whole month where we just couldn’t do anything, so we concentrated obviously on the accommodation. We managed to purchase on the day of the fire a van from down in Hobart, so we had a food van up here and operational nine days later, providing burgers and breakfasts and coffees and so forth for our guests.” From February through to the start of winter Stuart and his team dived into the gruelling renovation process, eager to have the entire resort fully functional for what is traditionally one of the busiest periods for the Cradle Mountain region. Come the start of the June and everything was in place, with the official re-opening of Hellyers Restaurant, the kitchen and the guest lounge in mid-June.
