Women in Leadership
As each year in the industry passes and we welcome more women, most as their first jobs, I see the importance for these girls to have strong female role models in leadership and decision making positions, something I wish I had more of when I first entered the industry. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these kinds of initiatives make in both the industry and women’s lives in the future.
the incredible Tasmanian suppliers and producers as well as interact with and welcome guests from all over the world, a role I could never have dreamed existed simultaneously and I am so grateful to have. What made you decide to apply for a scholarship with the THA Women in Leadership Program? I have long known that there is only so far experience will take you before you need to fill the gaps with education and training, and that goes for any industry. When the THA Women in Leadership scholarships came up, I really couldn’t believe the timing. Now that the dust has settled on the pandemic, and we as an industry can get out of survival mode and start looking forward again, I felt like it was time for me to start taking action on study goals I had set for myself pre pandemic. Furthermore, having more women in leadership roles in hospitality is something I am so passionate about seeing more of, and being part of this initiative could not align with my values and goals more. How wonderful to live in a state that sees the potential in women for the industry and is doing something to make it happen.
What do you hope to get out of the program?
I hope to gain more skills in communication, even though I feel as if I have ideas to contribute, sometimes I stumble on finding my voice to execute my ideas with confidence. I hope to also gain the language and theory needed to progress in leadership and decision making roles that have always been that just little bit beyond my current skill set. I do hope to learn more about business, specifically what goes into forward planning and goal setting. I also look forward to meeting and learning from more people in this fabulous industry.
