Stay at the Forefront of Intelligent Building Design with the NEW RCDD Program This year, BICSI unveiled the new Registered Communications Distribution Design® (RCDD®) program. The new program reflects recent innovations in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, specifically in the area of intelligent building design. The new RCDD program consists of: » The new Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM), 15th edition » A new instructor-led training course (DD215: Applied Intelligent Building Design) » A new self-paced BICSI Connect course (DD115: Best Practices of Telecommunications Distribution Design) » An updated RCDD Test Preparation course » New TDMM flash cards » And a new RCDD exam, created with the guidance of subject matter experts. Since 1984, the RCDD has served as BICSI’s flagship certification. This elite designation indicates that an individual has demonstrated mastery in designing structured
cabling systems, supervising the execution of the design, and assessing the overall quality of the completed communications distribution systems that support ICT solutions. BICSI would like to recognize the original group of RCDDs from the program’s pilot year, listed below: » Bob Bader
» Thomas E. Larsen » William R. Moore » Gary E. Mormile » Harry J. Pfister » Victor D. Phillips » Ronald Z. Symolon
Now in its 40th year, the RCDD’s longevity as the global standard- setting ICT distribution design credential makes it a highly sought-after certification that increases the value of any ICT professional that holds it. If you are interested in starting the journey to earning your RCDD certification, the time to do so is now!

How did you get started in the ICT industry?
I’ve been in the construction industry since I was seven. I didn’t get exposed to low voltage until maybe seven years ago, and then I dove into it.
What value has BICSI brought to your career?
A lot. Once I discovered BICSI and started to get more trained and in-depth into it, I knew I wanted to be a part of it, so I started volunteering.
What BICSI course has taught you the most?
I’d say TECH.
Do you have any advice for someone getting started in the ICT industry? My advice would be to stick with it and get the certifications. It’s the future of technology, and keep going.

The BICSI ICT Certification Institute’s programs could not be successful without an enormous network of committed, gifted, and engaged volunteers who give their time, resources, and knowledge to help create certifications that are relevant and meet the highest of industry standards. We would like to personally thank our volunteer leadership and every person who was involved in the RCDD Exam Scrub and Standard Setting Study for the time away from their families, careers, and daily life, to give back to the ICT profession. Folks, it is not worth it. Getting caught not only jeopardizes the certification you are trying to achieve, but it could also result in losing any other BICSI certification you may have already achieved. Every candidate who applies to take a BICSI certification exam must read, agree to, and adhere to the BICSI Code of Ethics and Professional Obligations . Each certification exam candidate is informed and exposed to this requirement twice before they take the exam: once during the application process and again right before taking the exam. Every BICSI credential holder must also reaffirm their commitment to the Code when they apply for recertification. It is essential that BICSI credential holders always exhibit the highest principles of ethical and professional behavior. In closing, each one of us, whether a BICSI member, a BICSI credential holder, a BICSI volunteer, or a BICSI employee, must exhibit the core values of the association: integrity, service, and excellence. The core value of integrity defines who we are as a professional association, and the qualities of honesty and strong moral principles that define that value are part of the reason that BICSI credential holders are recognized worldwide and trusted for their superior work. As BICSI representatives, we must all strive to make integrity a daily practice through service above self with excellence underpinning everything we do to advance the ICT profession. Remember: Cheating has a high likelihood of detection, and when fraudsters and violators are detected, their consequences will be dire and may result in lifetime censure. Don’t risk your career – especially when BICSI offers the tools to help you succeed! If you know of suspicious activity, send tips to: credentialing@BICSI.org.
This letter serves as a reminder to all BICSI members and credential holders to not risk your ICT career and livelihood by cheating on your industry credentials. BICSI certifications are highly valued in the ICT industry and among the global community of ICT professionals and their clients. It isn’t worth the risk to cheat and never be eligible to hold a BICSI certification … ever. Instead, study hard, thoroughly prepare, and when you are ready, attempt the exam. Prove you are the elite in the ICT profession! BICSI employs highly effective security strategies specifically designed to detect test integrity. We apply many detection techniques to identify suspicious activity on our certification exams that have proven to pinpoint cheating. Our techniques include the active use of various surveillance methods including AI, proctors, and data analysis that have successfully detected multiple individuals attempting to cheat on BICSI certification exams. BICSI and its exam partner take exam integrity very seriously. In addition to identifying suspicious testers, we also proactively work to protect exam integrity by thoroughly investigating suspicious activities and exam results through other methods. Most recently, a test center was caught running a collusion scheme resulting in that test center being permanently barred from offering BICSI exams. Other recent cases of individuals seeking to cheat on exams included testing candidates hiring proxy test-takers to take the exam on their behalf. Through our exam integrity detection methodologies, we recently concluded a thorough investigation that substantiated these unscrupulous actions, and the candidates have all been permanently banned from taking any BICSI exam or holding a BICSI membership.

More than words from WOMEN BICSI in Embracing challenges and breaking gender stereotypes can serve as powerful motivation. The opportunity to contribute to innovation and progress, irrespective of gender, should be the driving force. Being part of transformative advancements and leaving a lasting impact on the industry can fuel determination to thrive. Within the pulsing heart of the communications industry lies a community that thrives on the exchange of ideas, diversity of thought, and unity of purpose. It transcends boundaries, connects minds, and propels the world forward. It is time to shed outdated labels like “women in” and unite as one cohesive force, where every voice contributes to the symphony of innovation. The term “global village,” coined by the Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan in the 1960s in his seminal work “ Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, ” has never rung truer in the context of today’s communications industry. McLuhan, a visionary thinker renowned for his
Elaine Kasperek Unity in Communication: BICSI’s Inclusive Journey In questioning the need for additional labels, we confront the very essence of unity within the communication industry. Do these labels break down barriers, or do they inadvertently build more walls that further divide us? Drawing on over three decades in this industry, I have never viewed my gender as a weaker or less deserving category. Despite the acknowledgment of pay inequality, I have never felt that my position was a mere checkbox based on my gender. The prevailing narrative suggests that women often remain on the sidelines or hesitate to raise their hand, fueled by a fear of rejection. However, it is crucial to challenge the unfair pigeonholing of women into predefined roles – labeled as ‘Women in this’ or ‘Women in that.’ While working in a male-dominated industry, the drive to persist should not be exclusive to women but should resonate universally.

BICSI Brief, Volume 2, Issue 2
insights into media and technology, foresaw the interconnectedness of our modern world long before the advent of the internet. His prophetic vision anticipated the emergence of a global community interconnected by communication technologies, reminiscent of what we now experience. This interconnected village, inhabited by people from every corner of the world, is facilitated by telecommunications networks, the internet, and social media platforms, fostering shared experiences. The global village represents the breakdown of geographical and cultural barriers, enabling instantaneous communication and exchange of information across vast distances. In essence, McLuhan’s foresight underscores the profound impact of technology on human connectivity and communication. As we navigate this digital landscape, let us embark on a collective effort to redefine the narrative of the communications industry, recognizing the strength in diversity and appreciating the value in every voice. Breaking down barriers is not only a reshaping of our community but also setting a precedent for a more equitable and empowered global society. As we navigate the future, fostering responsibility and collaboration within this community will be crucial for building a more connected, informed, and inclusive global society. The communications industry, beyond technologies and services, is a dynamic community that plays a pivotal role in shaping
the way we perceive and engage with the world. In this journey toward unity, it’s worth acknowledging the significant contributions of organizations such as BICSI. As a global professional association supporting the advancement of the information and communications technology (ICT) community, BICSI plays a vital role in promoting inclusivity, knowledge sharing, and professional development. By recognizing the importance of diverse voices and perspectives, BICSI contributes to the collaborative and unified spirit of the communications industry, aligning with the broader goal of creating a more connected and equitable world. Together, let us embrace the unity that arises from diversity, and let BICSI’s commitment to excellence serve as a guiding light in our collective journey toward a more inclusive and interconnected communications community.

The mission of the Registrations and Credentials Supervision Committee (RCSC) is to advance and foster BICSI’s professional and occupational registrations and certifications programs for the purpose of providing industry respected, globally recognized, and broadly accepted credentials that enhance the abilities and stature of BICSI’s credential programs. Their activities include: » Maintaining and keeping credentials applicable to current industry needs through the performance of regular exam life cycle activities (i.e., JTA, Scheme Alignment, Item Writing, Scrub, Standard Setting), » Evaluating industry and market trends for the potential recommendation of new credentials or scope changing of credentials, » And supporting BICSI staff in the outreach and promotion of BICSI credentials programs.
Most recently, the RCSC supported the creation of version 15 of the RCDD exam.
Congratulations to the volunteers involved in this key certification launch!
