LIFTING WEIGHTS ARE NOT JUST FOR GETTING RIPPED! UNCOVER THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF STRENGTH TRAINING
People who think strength training is just for changing your reflection miss many of the best benefits of weightlifting. Building muscle is for more than just looking great — it helps you feel great, too. Increased Bone Density The strength of your bones is based on how dense they are. Fortifying your skeleton reduces the risk of degenerative diseases like osteoporosis. Applying controlled stress to bones causes them to grow stronger and become denser. This is especially crucial for older adults or those at an increased risk of fractures. Improved Joint Health If you have a family history of joint pain or arthritis, preventive action now in the form of strength training can save you pain down the road. Strength training helps build up the muscles around your joints, supporting them and reducing the risk of irritation. Deeper, Uninterrupted Sleep Sleep is essential for excellent health, providing your body with a crucial period for repair and restoration. But getting enough uninterrupted rest is often easier said than done. Strength training releases a molecule in the body called adenosine, which increases drowsiness and promotes better sleep. Enhanced Autophagy Think of autophagy as quality control for your cells. This process takes the unused parts of cells and reassembles them into salvageable cell parts. Autophagy was recently trending on social media as a side effect of fasting; however, you can also achieve it through strength training. Increased BMR Your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, is your resting metabolism. Boosting this metric helps your body burn more calories when simply relaxing on the couch, commonly referred to as the afterburn effect. Studies show that regular strength training can increase BMR.
Balanced Hormones Exercise, especially strength training, positively affects many hormones. The three hormones weight lifting increases most are testosterone, serotonin, and dopamine, all of which make you happier and healthier when at higher levels. Cellular Resilience Controlled pressure, such as in strength training, promotes cellular adaptations that enhance resistance to other forms of stress. When experiencing regular tension, the body responds to the threat by producing more serum levels at the cellular level, which preps the body to fight off any future stressors! Heart Defense Strength training is a fantastic addition to your workout routine, providing the proper support to keep that ticker pumping blood around your body. With benefits like reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol, spending at least 30 minutes a week with a rack of weights is a boon to cardiovascular health. Decreased Risk for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Improved Mood Conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia are marked by the breakdown of brain cells, often due to a buildup of plaque, which are fatty deposits or protein clumps between nerve cells that decrease cellular communication. Regular strength training programs may prevent or mitigate these brain-wrecking diseases, improve mood, reduce anxiety, boost self-esteem, enhance cognitive function, and moderate depression. Incorporating strength training into your fitness routine offers more than physical gains you can see in the mirror. The ripple effect of lifting weights and other resistance exercises extends beyond the superficial and into overall well-being with each session at the gym.

PROTECT YOUR HOME Prepare for Winter’s Wrath
That line from “Game of Thrones” is again true: “Winter is coming.” With it, you may face a deluge of snow, cold weather, rain, and obnoxious Christmas music. We cannot help with the last one, but the rest are good reasons to prepare your home for the elements. Here are four steps to solve a few pressing issues this time of year! Prevent Frozen Pipes When temperatures drop below freezing, uninsulated pipes are at risk of freezing and bursting. According to RubyHome, around 29.4% of home insurance claims were due to water damage and freezing in 2024. To top it all off, according to AAA Insurance, the average frozen pipe claim can run more than $11,000. The good news is that you can take simple, pragmatic steps to reduce the risk of frozen pipes in your home. Keeping your home thermostat at a regular temperature, even when you are out, helps mitigate the risk. A more effective solution, however, is to upgrade existing pipes with extra pipe insulation. Pipe insulation is effective and inexpensive, so you can keep your pipes safe without breaking the bank. If a room needs extra heat, space heaters can help seal the deal. Keeping every room in your house above 55 degrees is a good starting point for ensuring you do not suffer water damage this winter. Check Your Attic You probably do not spend much time in your attic unless you are a ghost or a bat. However, ensuring the insulation up there can keep heat from escaping during the winter months is essential. Heat rises, after all, and if that heat is dissipating through poorly insulated attic walls, that could be a serious and chilly problem. Turn Off Your Sprinklers This is a simple measure, but it’s easily overlooked. Remember to turn off your sprinklers come winter before temperatures reach below freezing. Otherwise, a front yard and driveway covered in ice
will remind you of the problem. Another important step is to drain your garden hose to help prevent the water inside from freezing and bursting the hose. Inspection Season It may seem like overkill, but if it’s been a while, have critical elements of your home inspected; it’s a great way to discover weak points and structural damage that can be repaired in time for winter. A roof inspection can be a proactive and safe move to shore up your home from the elements. The inspection can identify damage and possible leakage points that may cause interior water damage in snow or severe rain. The cost of any repairs will be well worth the money you will save on water damage repairs. While you are at it, have your chimney cleaned and inspected to reduce the risk of fire and flooding. Lastly, make sure your furnace or heater is up to the task. Inspecting your home’s heating system will detect any possible issues before they pose a serious risk. The last thing you want is to lose your heat in the middle of a winter storm.

Everyone deserves a little pampering, but you don’t have to make an expensive trip to the spa to treat yourself! With a bit of creativity, you can transform even the smallest bathroom into a personal oasis without straining your budget. Get ready to relax with an at- home spa day using these cheap bathroom decorating hacks. Add Plants Bring life to the space by adding fresh plants or flowers. Plants bring in natural elements and a serene feel while also cleaning the air in your bathroom. To maximize limited space in a small bathroom, hang plants from the ceiling or use ledges. This is an easy and inexpensive addition that instantly elevates the room. Use Matching Bottles Keeping things clean and cohesive is the key to creating a soothing salon feel in your bathroom. Find attractive, matching bottles to hold your shampoo, body wash, and other beauty care products, then create beautiful labels for them. You can go further and store your mouthwash in a glass decanter. Decorate Your Tub If you have a bath, turn it into a luxury experience by adding a chic wooden bath tray or caddy. Load the tray with your favorite beauty products, soaps, candles, and a favorite book. These are small and compact, so you can leave them displayed while not in use or stow them away until you’re ready for a soak. You can also add a bath mat to the tub for a splash of color, texture, and comfort. Spruce Up Shower Curtains The shower can dominate the space in a small bathroom, so make your shower curtains an eye-catching focal point. Use curtains that feature soft colors, a cool design, or interesting textures. You can also use two curtain panels instead of one to highlight the shower fixtures and frames. With these budget-friendly tips, your bathroom will look so good that you’ll enjoy pampering yourself under your own roof. Creativity and design can go a long way in creating an at-home spa without spending a fortune. Go ahead, treat yourself! SPA DAY ON A DIME Easy Hacks to Turn Your Bathroom Into a Serene Escape

SCORE BIG WITH KID- FRIENDLY TAILGATES
ways you can help your kids make the most of their day at the tailgate! Bring kid-friendly snacks and drinks. The average tailgate lasts a few hours, and most people enjoy at least one meal during that time frame. While most tailgate foods are simple appetizers and easy-to-make dishes, ask your kids or any kids attending if they want anything specific. Fill one of your coolers with sliced fruit and juice boxes to ensure your kids have a healthy food option and child-friendly drinks. Plan a few different activities. Your kids will get bored if there’s nothing to do at the tailgate besides listening to pregame coverage and talking to others. Invest in cornhole boards or other games, and see if someone in your group is
comfortable with face painting. It doesn’t have to be extensive, but having a few kid-friendly activities prepared will keep boredom at bay. Encourage your kids to show support for their team. Whether you’re a fan of the home or away team, you and your kids should wear the right colors to show your support. Let your kids pick out a shirt, jersey, hat, or other team-affiliated apparel to help them get involved. Finally, don’t forget about your child’s need for a nap. Be sure to bring pillows and a blanket for them, and set up a comfortable spot for them to rest when needed. Doing so will allow everyone to enjoy the upcoming game to the fullest.
Football season is underway, and many Americans will start spending their Saturdays and Sundays tailgating in stadium parking lots. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to an NFL or college game; tailgating is a great way to spend time with your friends and family before the big game. While many tailgates consist of adult activities like drinking alcohol and blasting loud music, many prefer to make it a family affair. If you plan to have kids at your tailgate, you need to ensure they have everything they need to have fun. Here are a few
