Members tour Peel Ports Liverpool

Following requests from Members to arrange educational experience events for more established freight forwarding staff (who do not qualify for the YFN) BIFA arranged a tour of Peel Ports Seaforth terminals. Twenty-three individuals from BIFA Members arrived at 10am on a surprisingly warm October morning at the logistics office within the

Liverpool Seaforth Port area and, following a safety briefing from Jake Seward of Peel Ports, they boarded a coach to tour the facilities. The first call was the original Seaforth Terminal which serves the ACL Grimaldi Service across the North Atlantic. Unfortunately for Members the terminal was a little quiet as, due to the recent cyber

incident at JLR, the RoRo staging area was empty when normally it is full of cars for export to Canada and the US. They continued on to Terminal 2, the newer riverside terminal, which handles the new super large vessels such as the MSC Irina Class. Here, in addition to seeing some of the largest ship-to-shore cranes in the UK, Members got to see the control room from where

the port controls automated and remote-controlled vehicles. A big thank you to Peel Ports and, in particular, to Jake who kept up a running commentary as we travelled around the terminals. BIFA hopes to arrange a similar trip in the new year – check www.bifa.org/events for details.
