M&e engineers Morris county Public safety complex addition — 38,000 sF —
M&E Engineers has provided the engineering design for a new building addition at the Public Safety Complex for Morris County. The complex will house a new 911 call center, data cen- ter, police offices, crime laboratories and office of emergency management. This new Public Safety Access Point (PSAP) will have 32 call taker and dispatch positions. Building systems include: two 130 ton Chillers, Rooftop Air Handlers, Energy Recovery Air Handler (Labs), Boiler, Domestic Water Booster Pump, Domestic Hot Water Heater, Fire Protection (Dry, Wet, and Clean Agent System), two 750 kW diesel generators and a 300 kW UPS System. Why was this particular job your favorite/most unusual? This is a mission critical facility that requires robust systems. M&E designed redundant 750 kW diesel generators and a 300 kW UPS System for back-up, as well as redundant cool- ing. Seamlessly migrating from the existing facility to the addition of the new Public Safety Complex was no easy task. The success of this project relied on many different consultants, equipment/service vendors, contractors, and County staff effectively coordinating all of the electrical power requirements, cooling requirements, and cabling infrastructure.
Building envelope and structural restoration throughout entire site, including reconstruc- tion of decks, waterproofing plaza, and replacement of cladding materials on 54 units within 8 buildings total, including 1) 38 apartments - midrise (4 floor), 2) 4 Portofinos - duplex units. 8 units total 3) 8 two story townhomes in 2 buildings (4 each) and 4) 1 single story clubhouse Why was this particular job your favorite/most unusual? The project includes complete waterproofing and restoration of all exterior waterproofing materials, requiring the integra- tion of a variety of materials to produce a superior long lasting finished product in place of what was a failed system. Retrofit requires constant field adjustment and analysis of existing conditions to achieve the correct finished product and long term performance.
