Rusken Packaging Heflin Plant Pursues ISO Certification

Cullman, Alabama based Rusken Packaging, Inc. has an- nounced that its Heflin, Alabama facility is currently un- dergoing the necessary steps for ISO 9001:2015 quality certification. The Heflin team has been working since February 2023 with plans to be certified by the end of the year. Driv- en by improving the quality for its customers, they have remained committed to earning this certification despite any challenges that have arisen. ISO 9001:2015 certification is centered around quali- ty management systems (QMS), including topics such as document control and planning; management responsibili- ties; utilizing resources; product realization; corrective and preventative actions as well as risk management. Achiev- ing certification at the Heflin facility will lead to enhanced quality systems and efficiencies, greater standardization of policies and procedures, and further establish continual improvement processes to better serve its partners, par- ticularly in the automotive industry. Once certified, Heflin will mark Rusken’s fourth certified manufacturing facility which currently includes Jackson, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi (ISO 9001:2015), and Harrisburg, Arkansas (cGMP). Smurfit Kappa Announces $350 Million Investment In Mexico Irving, Texas based Smurfit Kappa announced a $350 mil- lion investment in Mexico in the last five years that has increased its production capacity in the country. The Mexican economy is estimated to grow up to 3 percent both this year and next, boosted by increased manufacturing investment. Smurfit Kappa’s latest $12 mil- lion investment in its Tijuana plant includes new machinery and process upgrades that will reportedly increase both printing quality and efficiency. “Mexico is an important market for Smurfit Kappa,” said Laurent Sellier, Smurfit Kappa CEO of the Americas. “We have invested substantial resources both in paper machines and corrugated plants while increasing our net- work to support the country’s economy and our custom- ers’ needs.” Smurfit Kappa has operated in Mexico since 1957 and has had a presence in the northern Baja California region for more than 10 years.
