they that are Christ’s” think of these things rather than the sins, faults, and tailings of the flesh.. They crucify the flesh with the “ affections and lusts.” Since “we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit,” and not by the flesh, nor even by the law. Such a Walk as this means following and obeying the Holy Spirit as the rule of life and conduct. It w ill bring to an end vain glory, boasting, and all that which provokes others and leads to envy and strife.- II. Thus restoration, n o t "regeneration, i s needed. This delicate work of re adjustment requires meekness: "con sidering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” The thought is that if you were tempted as thé erring brother had been tempted, you might fall even as he did. There must be a spirit of humility in the presence of the other’s trespass. Moreover, high thoughts of self must be cast out, and Christ must be exalted in the mind. In the measure in ,which this attitude is achieved will there be fulfillment of the law of Christ in relation to others’ bur dens. Furthermore, while sharing others’ burdens, it must be remembered that each Christian has personal responsi bilities tha t. are wholly his own. Therefore, each one must test his own work apart from all others, because in this sense each “shall bear his own burdens.” The burdens of others must be looked upon as in firmities', the personal burdens as re sponsibilities. ■ fix. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there Is no law. 24 And “they, that are Christ's have cruci fied the flesh with the affections a n d lusts. 25 if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another. 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; consider ing thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 F o r^ lf^ a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiy- eth himself.. 4 But let' every' man prove his own Work, and then shall he have rejoicing in' himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden. 6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to . his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption! but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well do ing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good -unto all men, especially unto them who'are of the household of faith. The first is composed of the internal or subjective graces, and have God Him* self in view: love, joy, and peace. The second deals with the outward or objective graces, and has in view the Christian’s relation to o t h e r s : longsuffering, gentleness, and good ness. The third has the Christian himSelf in view: faith, meekness, and temperance ( or self-control, the keep ing in leash of the body, mind, and soul).
