But because they knew it was right for them to stay there and care for the sheep, they said quietly, “We will.” H The heavenly Father was pleased when the shepherds obeyed. T h a t night “the angel.of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them” (v. 9; read also vs. 10-17). . • The heavenly Father is saying to us today, “I want you to love my dear Son. ‘Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their . sins’ (Memory Verse). I want you to open the door of your heart and welcome the Saviour.” If each of us will say, “I will,” as Joseph and Mary and the shepherds did, wonderful things will happen. mind us of a Christmas tree. Near the bottom of the tree w e will put the pre sents. We see skates, a doll, an electric train, a football, and a toy ironing board. You would think, with such things under the tree at Christ mastime, that all hearts would be happy, but this is not so. Here is a black heart which shows the condi tion of many hearts at Christmas- time, y Gifts under the Christmas tree will not satisfy and change the heart. The Gift Which Changes the heart is th4 One God gave on the first .Christmas. We Will put this red cross on the Christmas tree to remind us of. God’s Gift, His Son, and our Saviour. We will -remove these presents, as they can never fully satisfy the heart. Now let us bripg the black heart , to the cross and see what happens. It is changed, and is now white. We will at this time place some real and last ing gifts under the cross. Let’s open them and see what, we find. One has “PEACE.” . The second has “JOY,” and the third, “HAPPINESS.” It is all right to give and ,to re ceive presents at Christmas, but we must never forget the Gift which God gave the world, if we are to have peace, joy, and happiness. art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19.
