to future glory. We know that while we are at home in the physical body, we are absent from the Lord in His heavenly life. As we walk by faith rather than by sight, we have the willingness of confidence. We are willing under the stroke of death to be absent from the-body because that means that instantly and consciously and joyously we are at home with the Lord in heaven. —Florida Baptist Witness. 13. Accepting “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Faith is not hope, not a mere expec tation of future things, but a present receiving of that which is promised
in a real and substantial way. It is accepting, not expecting . . . Faith recognizes in every case an act of creation. It does not require any ma terial to start with, for it believes In a God who can make all things out of nothing,.and therefore it can step out upon the seeming void and find it full of the creations of His power. —A. B. Simpson. 14. Upheld by the Unseen One “He will keep the feet of his saints” (1 Sam. 2:9). The baby was taking his first steps, laughing as he tottered across the car pet, with his mothr’s outstretched arms surrounding but not touching him. So it is that we older children walk, and fancy often that we are going on our way alone. God does not hold us back or carry us; step by step we must make our own way, but always unseen, unfelt, the everlasting arms surround us, and we cannot fall be yond their upholding strength. —The Sunday School Times. 15. Overruling pur Blindness “And one of them smote the servant . . . and cut off his right ear . . . Jesus . . . touched his ear, and healed him” (Lk. 22:50, 51). Peter made the same mistake that so many other servants of Christ make. We want to help men, to bring bless ing to theiii; we want them to hear the Word of God, and yet we go about things in such a crude way! . . . We hurt our own testimony. But our blessed, understanding Lord often cor rects our failures. He reached forth His hand and touched the ear of Malchus and healed him in a moment. What a wonderful thing it is to realize that,' after all, the final word is not with the servants of Christ, but it is with the Master of the servants! He so often overrules our failures and our blunders and brings blessing out of that which otherwise would be a means of sorrow and disappointment. —H. A. Ironside. 16. Precious in His Sight - “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures" (Jas. 1:18). God saved us from ourselves be cause He wanted us for Himself. Our redemption in Christ was planned from before the foundation of the world. God, who from all eternity has known the worst in us, will through all eternity do His best for us. We may often be plunged into discouragement by a sense of our own frailties and weaknesses or by dis paraging estimates of our worth by those with whom we come in contact. What a tonic in such hours of de pression to reflect upon the glorious truth that our birth in God proves our worth to God!— Revelation.
