THE KING’S BUSINESS The Bible Institute of Los Angeles 'J ' HE total number of regularly en rolled students for the Fall Term was 73. T HE Fall Term closed, with a week largely devoted to examinations, on Dec. 20th. ’J 'H E Winter Term will open on Monday, students, but also by the several churches in which he has preached on the Sundays of his stay, he will be engaged in the city in evangelistic work for some weeks.

THE insistent request of the stu dents Dr. Torrey on his return gave an*account of the meetings which he con ducted in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis. He said that in the latter place it rejoiced his heart to see many men who are now pillars in the church whom he had led to Christ when he was a pastor there, twenty-five years ago. One. man espe cially it delighted him to see in his seat night after nigut, for Dr. Torrey had car ried him in his arms to the hospital when he was suffering an attack of delirium tremens, and on his recovery had led him to Christ. The students were delighted with the report, for they had been pray ing for the meetings, but wished the Doctor had made it longer. QVER a year ago one of our students used some of the Colportage Books as a loan library in his house to house work. The following is an extract from a letter received from a woman whom he won for the Lord: “I have you to thank for the peace I feel these days, and for the fullness of the Spirit. Do not think you have lived in vain; it was you who showed me wihat I never dreamed I could attain through these dear little books you so kindly gave me. While alone in my lit tle cottage reading those books I found what the world cannot give, and now that my eyes are opened to the fact that the harvest is ripe and the reapers are SO FEW, I long to do all I can in my humble way to hasten the Lord’s com ing. Oh! how I wish I was able to give those blessed little books right and left to poor souls that are being lost.” ]yjR. OSCAR ZIMMERMANN, one of our students, is conducting weekly serv ices in the chapel at Terminal Island. These are the only meetings held at that place. Mr. Zimmermann’s heart has been going out to the seamen in San Pedro Harbor and he has been led to undertake a work which is already bring ing forth blessed results. The Lord has given him access to the men on many of the boats, and we are trusting that this is but the beginning of a great work to be done in their behalf. Mr. Zimmer- mann reports the following for one month’s work: Vessels visited, 27. Meetings held, 4. Conversions, 2. Books

Jan. 6th. An increased attendance is anticipated, as quite a number of new students have been accepted who expect to enter then. Visitors are always wel come. A convenient section of seats is reserved for their use. The classes meet at 2, 3 and 4 p. m. 'J'HE Popular Class, held on Friday eve nings, maintained a good attendance during the month, though the hall is not yet filled. On Dr. Torrey’s return he re sumed the exposition of the International (uniform) Sunday School Lesson at the 8 o’clock hour, and Mr. Hunter took up the studies in the book of Exodus. 'J'H E Institute Chapel has been located in a new and needy field near Gar- vanza. Mrs. Neth has been working in the neighborhood for many months. There is no Church in the immediate need. A Sunday school has been opened vicinity and the building answers a real and evening services are being held. We expect gréait blessings to attend this work. ÇÈORGE W. HUNTER, our Evangelist, has been holding a number of Bible classes in San Francisco and the vicinity. Among them is a remarkable class in San Quentin Penitentiary. Saturday aft ernoon is the only time allowed the in mates for out of door recration, and this is the afternoon when 350 men spend the recreation period in the great Bible Class conducted by Mr. Hunter. This large voluntary attendance under these conditions is evidence of two things— A hunger in the hearts *of men for the Old Truth of the Scriptures and a teach er who knows how to give out the Old Story that can never lose its power. 'J'HE series of addresses delivered by the Rev. W. C. Sherman of Sacra mento covered a large range of Scripture and were packed full of spiritual food. Dr. Sherman’s phenomenal ability to quote the Scripture passages and their location (and quote them correctly) as he needed them was a revelation and an encouragement to many of the students who have their own difficulties in that matter. His visit to Los Angeles has been appreciated not only by the Institute
