Woodford Manor Aged Care Winter 2025 Newsletter

Meet the Resident Margaret Kussrow

I grew up on a dairy farm, and after finishing school I worked in a variety of jobs. I started as a cow hand, then worked as a telephonist and switchboard operator at Prince Charles Hospital. Later, I ran a newsagency before making a big change in my life-I joined the Queensland Police Force in 1969.

I trained at Petrie Terrace and was officially sworn in as a police officer in March 1970. I served for 19 years and was proud to become the very first policewoman in Cairns. After some time, I returned to Inala, where I worked in Operations from 1976 until 1989. I married in 1981, and in 2000 I moved to Mackay. Wanting a new challenge, I completed my Certificate III in Aged Care and Disability. After leaving the police force, I cared for a man for 10 years. He once told me I was the best carer he ever had, a compliment that meant so much to me. Sadly, he passed away, but I'll never forget that time in my life. These days, I'm living at Woodford Manor. I've made many new friends here and I'm enjoying this new chapter and lifestyle.
