THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

The University of Southampton is in the top 1% of universities worldwide. We are a global centre for excellence in research and education. We are a research-intensive university, a founding member of the Russell Group, and have gained prestigious recognition for our successes and history of world-changing achievements. We have around 24,800 students. The University has seven teaching campuses. The main campus is located in the Highfield area of Southampton and we have four other campuses within the city. These are Avenue Campus, the home of the Faculty of Humanities; the National Oceanography Centre, the base for Ocean and Earth Sciences; University Hospital Southampton, the location of our Medical School; and Boldrewood Innovation Campus, an engineering and maritime technology campus which is also a base for the University’s strategic partner Lloyd’s Register. In addition, the University has its School of Art at our Winchester Campus, as well as an international branch campus in Malaysia which offers courses in Engineering. Our current position in different league table rankings and our stated aim of improving on these demonstrate our ambition and focus on quality: League table rankings: United Kingdom rankings The University is ranked in the top 20 by the three main UK university league tables. • 16th in The Guardian University Guide 2017, with 14 subject areas in the top 10 • 17th in the Complete University Guide 2017, with 18 subject areas in the top 10 • 16th in the Good University Guide 2016, with 15 subject areas in the top 10 Russell Group position We are placed 14th overall and 9th amongst the UK’s 24 leading, research-intensive universities that form the Russell Group in the Times Higher Education Table of Tables 2016.
