FAMILY TIES AND SKI SLOPES A CELLINO TRADITION CellinoLaw.com February/March 2024 Advisor
I’ve always cherished the moments that bring my family together, creating memories that last a lifetime. One of my favorite family traditions is when we head to the ski slopes in February. My wife and I take an annual ski trip to Ellicottville, New York, to spend quality time with our children and grandchildren. We typically spend a long weekend together.
As they stand on their skis, gripping the magic carpet, their faces light up with excitement and probably a little
trip will be a special one as we will have my 2-year-old granddaughter joining us and experiencing the slopes for the first time. The kids are sometimes hesitant about taking lessons or putting skis on for the first time, but it’s never long before their faces light up with excitement and eagerness, asking, “Papa, can we go again?” Our favored location is the picturesque Ellicottville, New York, which is known for its welcoming ski facilities. The slope-side hotel is perfect for large family gatherings like ours. They have rooms that comfortably accommodate up to eight kids. The resort has three hills of different sizes for different skill levels. The largest is a full ski slope, a thrilling ski run for the advanced skiers. The resort also has an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, which the kids love after a day out on the slopes. For them, playing in the pool while snow gently falls onto them is an exciting experience. Living up north truly offers us the best of both worlds. We get to enjoy all four seasons. The snowy winters provide a playground for our family skiing adventures, while the warm weather calls for all the summer sports. This allows us to create year-round family traditions. These traditions bind us together, creating memories we’ll cherish forever. I am so grateful for the family I have and the precious time we spend together, regardless of the season.
apprehension. By the time they are 5 years old, they’ve mastered the basics and are ready to ski independently. Witnessing their growth and achievement on the ski slopes is a proud moment for all of us. As the children grow older, they venture further, skiing away from their parents and us, exploring the slopes with newfound independence. No matter how far they roam, we always come back to the mountainside hotel and restaurant to share our adventures over a warm meal. It’s like a celebration that lasts through the generations. One of my favorite moments during these trips is watching the children pair up according to their skiing abilities. It’s heartwarming to see an 11- and 13-year-old team up, confidently taking on the slopes together. For the youngest ones, I usually find myself at the bottom of the hill, ready to catch them as they’re still learning to stop on the bunny slope. When my children were in their early teens, we used to take snowmobile trips in Canada, in a town called Huntsville, north of Toronto. The snowmobile trails in Canada are like highways of groomed, snow-covered areas that allow two-way traffic. Now that I am in my 60s, I no longer take these trips, but I do look forward to the ski slopes. This year’s
We’re firm believers in introducing the kids to skiing early on. It is so exciting to see the youngest grandchildren, barely 2 years old, taking their first steps on the ski slope. The “Magic Carpet” is like a conveyor belt that gently carries these tiny, bundled-up skiers to the top of the bunny hill with their parents proudly following behind.

Breaking New Ground Inside Cellino Law’s New Connecticut Office
We’ve all heard the term superfood, but what does it really mean? It’s often used in clickbait articles and referenced by dietitians and nutritionists. Articles with titles like “The 10 Superfoods to Supercharge Your Metabolism” and “Superfoods You Need to Eat” are everywhere. Unfortunately, the term "superfood" is marketing fluff, with no agreed- upon official definition among dietitians. However, superfoods have generally come to mean foods rich in vitamins and minerals that have health benefits. While there is no single food that can adequately provide all of the nutrients a healthy person needs, many foods are high in nutrients you can and should eat to improve your diet. Supercharge Your Health With These 4 Nutrient-Rich Foods
My path to law started long before I entered a courtroom; it’s rooted in my family history. In the 1980s, Poland was going through a fierce struggle for freedom. It was a time of political unrest, and my father courageously was a part of the Solidarity movement, an anti- communist effort that defied the status quo. His father, a member of the Communist Party, found himself at ideological odds with my dad. Imagine the tension at the dinner table!
Here are four healthy, nutrient-rich options, but before making any significant dietary changes, consult your physician or health practitioner.
FISH Fish are naturally low in fat and high in protein. They also have omega-3 fatty acids, which are hugely important for cell function, especially cells in your eyes and brain. Studies have shown benefits in preventing cardiovascular disease. Some good fish options are sardines, mackerel, salmon, trout, and tuna.
But my father’s resolve was unshakeable. With no freedom of the press, he secretly owned and moved a printing press to spread the word of the movement. His bravery cost him a stint in prison. Yet, he emerged undeterred, married the love of his life, and sought a new beginning here in the United States. Growing up, his spirit of fighting for what’s right had a profound influence on me. Even in retirement, he continued his advocacy, publishing a Polish current events pamphlet in Connecticut. As a child, I had a knack for argument and was often told I should become a priest or a lawyer. The choice became clear: I was destined for the law. In law school, my passion for debate and justice found a purpose. During the challenging and enlightening law journal competitions, I discovered the intricacies of insurance law, especially concerning personal injury law. In my early career, I honed my skills in insurance law by working for both a defense law firm and a plaintiff law firm. Ultimately, my passion lies with helping real people who have been injured by someone else’s negligence. I joined Cellino Law three years ago, and working with the remarkable team here has been a time of both growth and learning. I am now in our new office in Connecticut, surrounded by a team that believes in the power of collective intelligence — our guiding principle: none of us is smarter than all of us. We have a strong base of knowledge and experience to draw upon here. What I love most about practicing law is the tangible difference it makes, which goes far beyond handing clients a check. My career aligns with my Catholic faith, especially the concept of "preferential option for the poor." I often advocate for individuals, protecting them against large, powerful entities. I go to bed each night knowing I’ve made a difference in someone’s life.
BERRIES Berries are packed with natural sugars, are delicious, and are high in fiber and antioxidants. They are a great snack on their own and make a great addition to cereal, oatmeal, and yogurt. You can add common berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries or exotic options like goji or gooseberries.
DARK LEAFY GREENS Dark leafy greens include chard, collard greens, kale, and spinach. Leafy greens are high in fiber and various vitamins and minerals, including calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin A. LEGUMES Like the children's rhyme says, beans are a magical fruit. They are high in fiber, minerals, and vitamins. They have also been shown to lower the risk of heart disease. Many types of beans exist, from soy, kidney, butter, red, black, and chickpeas, and can be used in many dishes like chili to add necessary fiber. Many foods provide the nutrition and health benefits you need to live a long, healthy life. Try incorporating some of these foods into your meals for a more balanced and nutritious diet.

BE PROACTIVE! The Importance of Winter Preparedness
Although municipalities also have a responsibility to keep government property like parks, federal buildings, and roadways clear from snow and icy debris, there is always a risk that you may be stuck on the road before plows can be deployed. As a result, make sure your car is prepared for slick and snowy roads. Equipping your car with appropriate snow tires, maintaining your brakes, keeping your windshields clear, and adopting reduced speeds in adverse conditions are essential measures to prevent accidents. These safe driving practices become paramount as winter weather can significantly alter road conditions in a short period of time. You should also consider stocking your vehicle with an emergency kit in case of an accident that leaves you stuck on the roads during inclement weather. Staying one step ahead of winter weather hazards can help you avoid injuries, both to yourself and others. While winter weather preparedness is the best tool to avoid a potentially life-changing injury, accidents can still happen. If you’ve experienced a winter weather accident, call Cellino Law at 888-888-8888 .
Winter weather can be cold, harsh, and unforgiving — which is why it’s important to stay prepared for freezing temperatures and the elements that accompany them. From slippery sidewalks to snow-covered roads, the season demands a proactive approach to help prevent personal injuries from occurring. Winter hazards can manifest in a variety of forms that contribute to personal injuries, including car accidents or slips-and-falls. Preparation for these conditions is essential to ensure the safety of yourself and others. We all know that bundling up is the best way to protect ourselves from the cold winter weather, but did you know that choosing the right footwear can be crucial in protecting you from a potentially debilitating slip and fall accident? By choosing footwear with proper tread and ankle support, you can lessen your chances of slipping on snow-covered surfaces outdoors. Likewise, a supportive boot can prevent serious ankle injuries. If you are a homeowner, landlord, or business owner, you also have a responsibility to ensure your residence or place of business is clear of any potential hazards. You should make reasonable attempts to keep your property (and, yes, that generally includes sidewalks, too!) free of any ice or snow that could pose a danger to others. You can do so by keeping rock salt and a sturdy shovel on hand to combat pesky snow and ice. Interiors of businesses should also have weather mats and proper floor signage near high-traffic indoor areas where snow or ice tend to accumulate before melting.

In the dynamic world of digital finance, Apple Pay Later could be a game- changer, offering an innovative solution for consumers seeking convenience and financial control. Apple Pay Later joins a crowded marketplace of “buy now, pay later” apps like Klarna, Sezzle, Affirm, and PayPal’s Pay in 4 program, all of which have varying payment schedules; some require a minimum and maximum purchase amount and other restrictions. THE CONVENIENCE OF DEFERRED PAYMENTS At its core, Apple Pay Later provides a simple yet powerful feature: the ability to split purchases into four equal payments over six weeks with zero fees or interest. This approach aligns with the needs of modern consumers who need budget- friendly solutions to maximize their resources. Whether shopping online or in-

Engaging the app initiates only a “soft check” on your credit, so it doesn’t impact your credit score. SMART BUDGET MANAGEMENT Beyond its convenience, Apple Pay Later is designed to promote responsible spending. This feature, coupled with options for manual or autopay payments, enhances a user’s ability to decide how the purchase could affect their budget. Also, timely alerts and
reminders for payments due ensure users stay on track and avoid financial surprises. At this time, Apple Pay Later has no plan to charge fees for late payments.
