NY Welcome Packet 2020

Welcome Packet

New York 2020 – 2021

Greetings! Dear New and Returning Students,

On behalf of our wonderful faculty and staff, I’d like to say we are thrilled to have you join us this fall! We have been anticipating your arrival with faithful prayer and by finalizing the preparation of our facilities and programs. We cannot wait to see the way the Lord will work with powerful tenderness in each of your hearts over the course of this year! Traditionally, we have called the WOLBI experience “the best year of your life” – but I want to instill in you the knowledge that though we intend for this year to be an excellent and memorable year of growth in love and Christlikeness, our true goal is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to make every year of your life better than the last. We want to provide you with a foundation to continue growing in power, love, and self-discipline. We want this to be “the best year of your life” in the sense that it will pave the way for an increasingly abundant life! I want to encourage each and every one of you to lay down the expectations you have for this year and to quiet your mind and prepare room in your heart for the truths Jesus will teach you. For our new students, lay aside, but do not forget, the circumstances from this past year of your life, and seek to enter this semester with fresh hope and the knowledge that the Father of lights wishes to give you good gifts. For returning students, know that this year will be fundamentally different than your first year and that God still has much to reveal to you. Finally, know that the staff and faculty around you – RAs, RLs, Deans, Resident Professors, Visiting Professors, Kitchen Staff, Housekeeping, Maintenance Crew, and so many others – are here to serve you. Please come to us with anything. Let’s make much of Jesus this year; let’s dwell on the moments where His mountain-shattering power meets the moment when He spoke gently to the woman at the well and offered her a sip of salvation. Let’s seek Him and commit to continuing His ministry of reconciling ourselves and others to the richness of His love.

With Enthusiasm and Gratitude,

ROGER PEACE President, Word of Life Bible Institute

Sports Ministry Options 2020-2021

SPORTS At Word of Life Bible Institute, we have an incredible opportunity for discipleship and evangelism through the avenue of sports. This ministry is available for students who have special abilities in the area of athletics. Tryouts are necessary in selecting those students to form the teams who will represent the school. The sports ministry provides a variety of opportunities including games against area colleges. Along with the scheduled games that will make up the athletic season, Freshmen will participate in Open Air Evangelism, and Sophomores will join Missions Reality during the spring semester. Fall sports are Men’s and Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball. Winter sports are Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Our spring sport is Women’s Softball. As a student at the Word of Life Bible Institute, you will be actively involved in various ministries during the school year. Each student will be assigned to a specific ministry. Some of these include: Open Air Evangelism in New York City, Word of Life Reverb and teen outreaches, as well as on-campus events such as the Harvest Jamboree. In addition to these, which you may simply sign up for an opportunity to participate in, we also offer sports ministries you must try out for to be selected. 3. Each player will be charged approximately $250 on their school bill. This fee covers team warm-ups and apparel (which the athlete will keep) and basic equipment costs for their sport. (There may be additional charges for extended trips and tournaments.) 4. All male athletes must bring a character reference from a pastor or adult leader who has known them for at least 3 years (non-family member). This will be used if/when ministering in prisons. 5. In special cases there is an opportunity to be a two or three-sport athlete (1 fall, 1 winter and 1 spring). REQUIREMENTS 1. Those students desiring to be involved in sports ministries must first try out for a team. Athletes trying out for Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer, and Women’s Volleyball must arrive by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 24, 2020, for check-in. The student must also have sent in or must bring with them: proof of a sports physical within the past year, health record information, and must have paid the Bible Institute confirmation fee of $250. Students who have not provided this information will not be allowed to check in. Registration will officially take place on September 11. 2. Students will participate in these sports ministries for the entire year (except for Softball). Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams may be required to stay on campus during a few days of Christmas break for scheduled games. Softball players may be required to stay on campus for a few days during spring break.

At Word of Life we participate in collegiate-level athletics. Participation on any of our athletic teams will use up a year of eligibility in college-level athletics.

If you plan to attend tryouts for a sports team, please fill out the form at: wol.is/athleticsform

Final Official Transcript Notice New York Campus 2020-2021

Upon graduation, the Admissions Office will need your final official transcript from either your high school or homeschool organization. It is critical we receive your final official transcript in the mail before Registration which is Friday, September 11, 2020. Most students submit either a non-graduate transcript or a final unofficial transcript for acceptance. Non-graduate transcripts do not have a student’s complete 9th-12th final grades. A final unofficial transcript means it does consist of a student’s 9th-12th final grades, but it does not contain an ink signature or a raised school seal. If you submitted college transcripts for acceptance, we will need to receive your final official high school or homeschool transcripts to be enrolled as a student. These are the specific items that need to be on the final official transcript for high school and homeschool organizations: • There needs to be a final grade point average (GPA) or a grading scale if a GPA is not listed. • Graduation Date. • An ink signature or a raised seal from the school or organization. • If you are homeschooled, we need to receive your Homeschool Verification Form with an ink signature.

Your transcripts are tied into your financial aid, so it is critical we receive your transcripts as soon as possible!

Please have your transcripts mailed to the following address: Word of Life Bible Institute

Admissions Department 4200 Glendale Rd. Pottersville, NY 12860 If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Department at: 1.800.331.9673 admissions@wol.org Or, contact your Admissions Counselor directly!
