S onoma Clean Power this past year celebrated its 10th anniversary providing renewable energy to Sonoma County—but its community works go beyond its mission as an electricity provider. From investing in programs to lower energy costs and improve efficiency for customers to supporting clean-transportation charging infrastructure to championing higher education scholarships and workforce development—SCP’s community involvement has helped it earn a Best Public Agency award in this year’s contest. The agency’s Director of Public Relations & Marketing Kate Kelly says their goal is to deliver reliable clean energy “with our community’s best interests in mind.” “We’re focused on making our region more energy-independent by investing in local power projects, driving innovation and building a resilient grid that can withstand future challenges,” says Kelly. “And we do it while keeping decision-making local, transparent and responsive to what matters most to our communities.” One of SCP’s big success stories has been its EverGreen service—a 100% renewable, 100% locally-generated electricity option. “Consisting of a mix of solar and geothermal energy, EverGreen remains the only service of its kind in California, providing 100% local, renewable energy around the clock,” says Kelly. Speaking of geothermal, SCP looks to further tap into the area’s geothermal capacities through such long-term initiatives as the GeoZone project, which

aims to bring 600 megawatts of new geothermal energy to the region.
