The International Year of Co-operatives civic reception at the Scottish Parliament, sponsored by Paul Sweeney MSP, was an inspiring celebration of the vital role co- operatives play in building stronger, fairer communities and more sustainable local economies across Scotland. Paul delivered a powerful message highlighting the essential contribution of co-operatives to Scotland’s future. Our CEO, Karen, and President, Eddie, shared Scotmid’s story and reaffirmed our commitment to making a meaningful impact through co-operative values. Rose Marley, CEO of Co-operatives UK, reminded attendees that IYC2025 is a global call to action—an opportunity to champion co-operative principles and drive lasting change. We are proud to be part of this movement and remain committed to supporting communities across Scotland as we look ahead to the International Year of Co-operatives and beyond.
