Page’s Conspiracy can be seen as a key exemplar of the growing court tensions because a
moment of miscommunication transformed into erratic punishment and a plot for regicide.
To conclude, the Page’s Conspiracy has often been disregarded or used as evidence
for other theories suc h as debates on Alexander’s ‘fusion policy’, and this has certainly been
exposed as problematic and an underestimation of significance of the Conspiracy. Though it
is impossible to know which components triggered the Page’s Conspiracy, this does not
diminish the importance of the episode. The conspiracy provides a keen insight into different
aspects of Alexander’s court, ranging from hunting to the role of Royal Youths at court, and
how courtiers interacted in moments of contention. The hunting motif is the most important
element, because it highlights the growing disparity between Macedonians who were not a
part of the campaign from the beginning, versus those who joined Alexander on the
campaign. The Page’s Conspiracy is prefacing the dangers of disgruntle d nobles, and it
highlights the level of instability in Alexander’s court that a hunting debacle could lead to
plot of regicide.
