L’ACCUSÉ DU MEURTRE DE LA DAME DE LA RIVIÈRE NATION DOIT SUBIR UN TEST D’APTITUDE

Le mardi 2 janvier, la Cour supérieure de justice de L’Orignal a ordonné que l’homme accusé du meurtre de Jewell Langford, aussi connue sous le nom de la Dame de la rivière Nation, subisse un test afin de déterminer s’il est apte à subir son procès. Les résultats de l’analyse permettront de déterminer si Rodney Nichols, 81 ans, est en mesure de se présenter à son procès compte tenu de son état de santé mentale, puisqu’il souffre actuellement de démence. Nichols est accusé d’avoir étranglé Lang- ford et d’avoir jeté son corps dans la rivière Nation, près de Casselman, le 3 mai 1975. Le vendredi 1 décembre, la Police pro- vinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) a coordonné son action avec celle du U.S. Marshal Service pour faire comparaître Nichols devant le tribunal de Casselman. Des agents de la PPO se sont rendus en Floride pour interro- ger Nichols en juillet 2023 et ont recueilli des échantillons d’ADN qui ont ensuite été comparés au sang trouvé sur un tissu utilisé pour attacher le corps de Jewell Langford. L’absence de technologie adéquate au moment de sa mort a retardé l’identification de Jewell Langford, qui a longtemps été connue sous le nom de la Dame de la rivière Nation, jusqu’à ce que la police identifie ses

arrested three men in connection with the series of break-ins. Joseph Chartier, 44, and Paul Maynard, 48, from Ottawa, as well as Dario Orsag, 24, from Clarence-Rockland were arrested in December. All are charged with nine counts of breaking and entering with the intent to commit a crime, possession of break-in instruments, theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, trespassing at night, and disguise with intent. All three were held for a bail hearing.
Three men have been charged after a months-long spree of breaking and entering. Police detachments throughout Eastern Ontario received reports of similar break- and-enter cases beginning around the end of August 2023.
