By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger The Scottsboro High School football program will have some experienced players returning for the 2023 season. This experience will hopefully help the Wildcats improve upon last year’s 7-5 overall record. Scottsboro closed out the 2023 season in second place in Class 5A Region 7, after the program’s only region loss was to Arab. Scottsboro reached last year’s state playoffs, where the Wildcats defeated Brewer in the opening Section football The 2023 Section High School football team is under the leadership of new head coach Riley Edwards. Edwards, who was at Crossville last fall, made the change to Section during the off season and he replaces former coach Chris Hammon. Last fall, Section finished at 1-9 overall after defeating Class 2A region 8 foe Ider. This year, the Lions will be hoping to improve from last year and Section will begin that task with the 2023 season opener on Friday, August 25 at Decatur Heritage Christian.
Scottsboro’s season came to an end with a 35-10 loss to Leeds in the second round of the playoffs. Head Coach Cris Bell expects the 2023 team to make another playoff run and he said that the Wildcats should be “good defensively” this year. Scottsboro is set to open the 2023 season at Fort Payne on Friday, August 25, 2023 in the annual Battle of the Wildcats. “I think it’s good to have big games early," said Bell.

Pisgah coach Luke Pruitt talks about the upcoming football season during the 2023 Media Day. Pruitt, who is entering his 6th year as the Eagles head coach, helped guide the program to one of the best seasons in school history last fall. Pisgah finished second in Class 2A Region 7, reached the AHSAA State Semi-finals, and complied an impressive 11-3 record. Two of the losses last fall were to the Fyffe Red Devils, including a 41-14 season ending playoff loss. The Eagles' other loss was in the regular season to rival Sylvania. Pisgah is looking to avenge those losses, and for a repeat trip to the state playoffs. The Eagles will begin that quest when the 2023 season opens on September 1 against Lexington.
